古稀之年的馬丙坤和妻子林芝花在吉林白山生活了一輩子，膝下五個子女均不在身邊，積壓自在不同的城市成家立業。這一年，當林場初降瑞雪的時候，馬丙坤的癌症越發嚴重。領居黃老太的突然去世讓老馬對老伴的將來更是擔憂，兩口子幾番爭論，最後決定把林芝花託付給其中一個子女照顧終老。於是老兩口踏上了托孤的旅途，可一家家走下來，積壓家都有各家的問題，托孤不成反而為了子女又是一番操勞，解決了子女們的問題，老兩口覺得似乎哪一家都不適合，於是走了大半個中國的老兩口，最終還是回到了故鄉吉林白山，不幸的是一路奔波的林芝花老太太意外地去世了。五個兒女們得知噩耗趕回來奔喪，馬丙坤固執地拒絕了子女們接他養老的提議，他說要守著老伴兒。又是一年冬天，老馬照例來到老太太墳前，他向老太太彙報說孩子們生活得都很好。雪飄起來，馬丙坤平靜地跟老伴兒說，讓她耐心等等，春節過了，就能團圓了……
