different
| this is a different style of Vivian, and the songs inside this album are rather different from the earlier ones! She composed 3 songs in this album, and these 3 are very fresh and different from those she wrote earlier! Her composing of songs has improved tremendously! This is another type of Vivian that fans would like to see! Vivian, please return to the Entertainment industry... Many fans miss and love your voice, songs,and pretty face. |

Elegant, Sophisticated...
| First things first: as I'm writing this review, YesAsia has this album listed as being Cantonese, but it is actually Mandarin, and the incorrect playlist is displayed. Probably after they review these comments they will fix the problem, so don't be confused. I urge everyone to pick up this album before it disappears, since it seems as though Vivian's Mandarin items are becoming scarce here. You'll want to listen to this album with a very good pair of speakers...not to blast your ears out, but to listen to the lilt and intonation of Vivian's voice and the delicate instrumentation (especially the jazz/ lounge piano of track 9). It makes a tremendous difference. This might seem strange from listeners who think big speakers require big bass, but remember: most advances (like the invention of the CD) in audio technology come from the Classical music enthusiasts, who demand to hear every single nuance of their music (blasting bass doesn't require hi-fi speakers, just big ones). The atmosphere is intimate and warm, with Vivian softly singing just inches away. The music never overwhelms the singer, and the singer never overwhelms the listener with vocal histrionics (think Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston early in their career --when they had to prove themselves, when they had to put arpeggios and long notes into every song and assaulted ears - *none* of that here). Instead, Vivian (already an established star by the time of this album's release) makes her point with subtle inflections of voice. To summarize: this album appeals to people who shop in the "vocal" section of the record store. If you like raging guitars, pounding bass beats, distorted voices, vocal arpeggios, notes held for longer than a minute, and music louder than the singer, then you won't like this album. This is a good old fashioned pop album that reflects the elegance and clean lines on the CD cover and booklet. There's nothing wrong with that! |
