In a Tiny village, disaster befalls its inhabitants every 300 years, or so they say. A popular self-styled magician named Naoko (Yuloe Malama) is summoned as a deity to rid the people of their anxiety. But there are many would be deities there, one who can materialize anything, one with eyes in his feet… each posing as a god. When a series of bizarre incidents occurs, Naoko is cornered with a genius physicist (Hiroshi Abe) and Detective Yabe (Katsuhisa Namase). Do deities actually exist, or are they charlatans?

Takes goofiness to extremes Customer Review Rated Bad 8 - 8 out of 10
"Trick," a film based on a successful TV series, tells of an unsuccessful young magician, Naoko (Nakama Yukie), who is recruited by two villagers to come to their village and pose as a goddess. In the remote village, everyone believes that a giant turtle spirit is released every three hundred years to wreak destruction. Only a god or goddess can prevent this dread occurrence. The plan is for Naoko to perform a few of her magic tricks and, by doing so, to convince the local yokels that she is a goddess who will protect them. Unfortunately, when Naoko arrives in the village, she discovers that three other people posing as gods have preceded her. Now the villagers demand that they compete to prove who is the real god; the losers will be put to death. Complicating the plot is an old acquaintance of Naoko, the great physicist Ueda Jiro (Abe Hiroshi). He is convinced that there is treasure to be found in the village and seeks it with the "aid" of two bumbling government "toilet inspectors". This is just the beginning of the bizarre twists and turns in this zany comedy, a film with an excess of goofy ideas. Director Tsutsumi Yukihiko, who subsequently directed "2LDK" and "The Sword of Alexander", specializes in serving of comic mayhem. While this film could have benefitted from a sharper focus, it is richly entertaining with a host of colorful characters.

Unexpectedly funny! Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
"Trick" has an unusual yet likable style of cinematography. Different is good. Also, I was expecting it to be just a mystery thriller, but surprisingly it was full of humor that kept me laughing! "Trick" also taught me a few interesting Japanese-writing tricks.

I saw this on TV Customer Review Rated Bad 9 - 9 out of 10
I saw this on TV few months ago. I only saw few of the series. Not all the series! Meaning I missed out a lot. So far, from what I've seen; I liked it. I saw the ending. It was cute. It's full of comedy! I'm planning to buy this. If you like solving things and having comedy with it. This I recommend!
