A fun album Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
This is a good album, not a single boring song. I really like the tracks with the Far Eastern-flavoured melodies such as "Mata ne" and "Viola". I highly recommend it to those who like pop music in general, ie. ballads, active/upbeat tunes and in between.

Lively & memorable! Customer Review Rated Bad 8 - 8 out of 10

I've been in love with JPOP for several years now, but I wasn't too impressed with the much bigger hypes - like Ayumi & Utada. I believe that Hitomi, along with her various styles can be just as comparable.

My favourite style she sings is those of a mild Mediterranean/Latin feel. The 2nd track in this album - 'ANGELUS' to me has proven her potential. It's a very lively & powerful combination of Salsa, and Dance which I believe makes it the HIGHEST standing point in this album. If you have listened to similar themed songs like 'MOTTO', ‘La Fiesta’ or ‘Fantasista’, you will love 'ANGELUS'.

Hitomi is also an extremely delicate singer. 'HATSUKOI', is reminiscent to her previous hit 'POINSETTIA'. Both are slow but deeply intricate and poetic that makes them unpassable. 'MATANE' uses a similar approach but delivers a less poetic feel.

There are 9 tracks that I personally like so far - particularly the emotional 'JEWEL OF KISS', 'MATANE', 'YUME BIYORI' (for the ending theme of anime Doraemon OST) and 'HATSUKOI'. The included DVD MVs are also colourfully designed and full of personality. It is also a memorable thing to watch - especially the final video collage 'behind-the-scenes' for each of the MV production.

Even if she is one of those low profile artists, I always think otherwise as I believe that she deserves more fame. What makes her really appealing is how most of her songs (including the ones in this album) are technically complicated, but each inside has a tight, cohesive connection & flow in between. It was her previous best album Delicious! I had early last year that leads me into buying this limited edition of Love Letter. Highly recommended.

An amazing album! Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
This is a wonderful cd. Ms. Shimatani covers several musical genres, and her voice is pleasant to the ears. I've come to very much enjoy her dancey beats mixed in with traditional music.. it creates a very fresh and fun style. I would definitely recommend track 1 "Tsuioku + LOVE LETTER", track 5 "Z! Z! Z! -Zip! Zap! Zipangu!-", track 9, "Viola" (you'll see what I mean about the traditional influences in this wonderful song!), and track 11, "Yume Biyori".

If you're looking for a new artist, Shimatani is DEFINITELY one you should check out.

The BEST Album of All Time! Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
I fell in love with this CD the moment I played it. It has great tunes, her songs are beautiful, and it's totally worth it! I think this is one of Shimatani Hitomi's best albums of all time. I listen to this CD repeatedly for several days. I must commend the great instrumental music as well. You will be surprised!

Lots of energy Customer Review Rated Bad 8 - 8 out of 10
I have to admit, the first song of hers I heard was Angelus through watching Inuyasha, and I fell in love Hitomi's voice and style immediately. Also, Viola is a beautiful track that puts the listener in mind of ancient China, while at the same time, it has a dance feel to it. While many of the tracks have a decidedly fast pace and dance feel to them, Shimatani pulls it off well. Nice!

Just too perfect Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
This rules, seriously. I mean, my dad got me her Delicious album by accident thinking it was someone else. Needless to say, my wonderful father got me addicted to something, Hitomi!. After finding out that I really, really liked it he started getting me other J-pop Cds but none rivals Hitomi's. I'll be getting her Cds as long as she makes them! I love how her style differs for practically every song and that even though it's different it's still very good.

Not impressed... Customer Review Rated Bad 3 - 3 out of 10
This CD is not so good. Hitomi has a wonderful voice that is significantly trained and well-honed. It's a low soprano, but unfortunately, that voice is lost on this CD of random songs. The only song I like on this is track 3...which is one of her slower tracks. Track 1 opens with an R&B beat and track 2 is distinctly latin in style. Track 3 is pure Japanese pop...and the style this singer should stay with. And does, but only on track 4. Then she goes back to an ecclectic mix of J-Pop ballads, latin rythmns, R&B and dance style songs (like the dance music on track 5). Track 6 even has the scratching sounds of hip-hop thrown in. Overall, this is a confusing CD and it appears the artist is searching desperately to find her style and not succeeding. There are loads of songs on this CD, which is another sign she is trying to squeeze in a little bit of everything on this album. In my opinion, that is a mistake. I confess I turned the disk OFF after track 7, because I couldn't stand all the various styles, and frankly, I am NOT a fan of dance music. I LIKE up-tempo songs, but done in a nice way and not done the way they are on this CD. This CD leaves you breathless...but not in awe. It leaves you breathless because the music is confusing and the dance/hip-hop songs are TOO FAST to keep up with and leave you feeling drained and tired. You cannot enjoy Hitomi's voice at all...which is a shame. I think she could be a great singer with better material that suits her. I will not be playing this CD again ever, and I'm sorry I bought it. I wanted to experiment with something new, and I should have not done that. If you are looking for new talent...look elsewhere. Not to this CD.

Shimatani did it AGAIN!! Such an awesome singer!! Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
Shimatani latest album tsuioku + LOVE LETTER is one heck of an awesome album! Shimatani have strong voice, the beat in this CD+DVD is really dynamic, ranging from dance music like zzz zip zap zipangu to some real traditional Japanese Enka music such as Hatsukoi. She is really versatile singer - and one thing that I like most about Shimatani song is the fusion of old fashioned Japanese tune/instrument with modern pop music (take VIOLA for instance). Few of my most favorite tunes are VIOLA (LOVE THE BEAT of the song), TSUIOKU + LOVE LETTER (love the chorus refrain and the weird opening sequence), ZZZ ZIP ZAP ZIPANGU, ANGELUS (from Inuyasha), and JEWEL of KISS. Overall I love the album - her music expression is amazing. (Okay okay so I admit - Shimatani is hot too :) but it is rare that someone this beautiful can sing so well :) This is a must get - and if you are looking to listen to some new music with new beats - go for Shimatani! I am really impressed by this CD :) (Buy the CD+DVD set - it is worth it just to look at her dancing in VIOLA PV and kicking some butt in ZZZ ZIP ZAP ZIPANGU!!) Awesome album - one of the best in long time :)
