Professional Review of "Tsuioku + LOVE LETTER (Japan Version)"
March 26, 2005
|
As the title suggests this is a concept album about love: Twelve songs of lyrical correspondence written to a lover, friends, family, and the artist herself. The compositions range from exotic to danceable and the mixture of medium slow tunes that seem to balance with Hitomis image of lively energy reveal the graceful and calm presence of a 24-year-old artist in her golden years. With Yuko Onari (illustrator and novelist) and Satoshi Suzuki (TV drama and movie screenwriter) contributing lyrics, fans will come to know Hitomis outlook, character, and above all, her true self. Five years after debuting, the real Hitomi is stepping forward and it is going to make her an even more interesting artist to follow. The original review is written by DAILY J-POP TIMES. |

A fun album
| This is a good album, not a single boring song. I really like the tracks with the Far Eastern-flavoured melodies such as "Mata ne" and "Viola". I highly recommend it to those who like pop music in general, ie. ballads, active/upbeat tunes and in between. |

Lively & memorable!
Lively & memorable!

I've been in love with JPOP for several years now, but I wasn't too impressed with the much bigger hypes - like Ayumi & Utada. I believe that Hitomi, along with her various styles can be just as comparable. My favourite style she sings is those of a mild Mediterranean/Latin feel. The 2nd track in this album - 'ANGELUS' to me has proven her potential. It's a very lively & powerful combination of Salsa, and Dance which I believe makes it the HIGHEST standing point in this album. If you have listened to similar themed songs like 'MOTTO', La Fiesta or Fantasista, you will love 'ANGELUS'. Hitomi is also an extremely delicate singer. 'HATSUKOI', is reminiscent to her previous hit 'POINSETTIA'. Both are slow but deeply intricate and poetic that makes them unpassable. 'MATANE' uses a similar approach but delivers a less poetic feel. There are 9 tracks that I personally like so far - particularly the emotional 'JEWEL OF KISS', 'MATANE', 'YUME BIYORI' (for the ending theme of anime Doraemon OST) and 'HATSUKOI'. The included DVD MVs are also colourfully designed and full of personality. It is also a memorable thing to watch - especially the final video collage 'behind-the-scenes' for each of the MV production. Even if she is one of those low profile artists, I always think otherwise as I believe that she deserves more fame. What makes her really appealing is how most of her songs (including the ones in this album) are technically complicated, but each inside has a tight, cohesive connection & flow in between. It was her previous best album Delicious! I had early last year that leads me into buying this limited edition of Love Letter. Highly recommended. |

An amazing album!
|
This is a wonderful cd. Ms. Shimatani covers several musical genres, and her voice is pleasant to the ears. I've come to very much enjoy her dancey beats mixed in with traditional music.. it creates a very fresh and fun style. I would definitely recommend track 1 "Tsuioku + LOVE LETTER", track 5 "Z! Z! Z! -Zip! Zap! Zipangu!-", track 9, "Viola" (you'll see what I mean about the traditional influences in this wonderful song!), and track 11, "Yume Biyori". If you're looking for a new artist, Shimatani is DEFINITELY one you should check out. |

The BEST Album of All Time!
| I fell in love with this CD the moment I played it. It has great tunes, her songs are beautiful, and it's totally worth it! I think this is one of Shimatani Hitomi's best albums of all time. I listen to this CD repeatedly for several days. I must commend the great instrumental music as well. You will be surprised! |

Lots of energy
| I have to admit, the first song of hers I heard was Angelus through watching Inuyasha, and I fell in love Hitomi's voice and style immediately. Also, Viola is a beautiful track that puts the listener in mind of ancient China, while at the same time, it has a dance feel to it. While many of the tracks have a decidedly fast pace and dance feel to them, Shimatani pulls it off well. Nice! |
