Hong Kong's most famous cop actor, Danny Lee (The Killer), directs and stars in Twist, an offbeat crime film that shows the stunning extremes that cops employ in order to catch the bad guys. When a clever thief (Simon Yam at his overacting best) gets away with a huge heist, he greets the investigating cops with buckets of know-it-all smarm and "yes, I did it" charm. Marred by a flawed story

In "Twist", Simon Yam and his henchman pull off the biggest robbery ever committed in Hong Kong. Yam then proves to be exceptionally slick in evading the grasp of the Danny Lee's team from the Organized Crime and Triad Bureau. The film provides lots of action and plenty of eye candy in the person of Suki Kwan. Unfortunately, in the middle of "Twist", the film goes off the rails. Yam assaults two police officers with his jeep, seriously injuring one of them. Here is a crime for which the police have eyewitnesses, a crime for which Yam can be locked away for years. Yet inexplicably Yam never gets charged with this crime. Instead, the police continue to seek only to charge him with the robbery for which they have no evidence. Obviously, this makes no sense. This major flaw ruined the movie for me. If you can disregard this mistake, "Twist" provides a workmanlike, modestly entertaining actioner. |
