Directed by Lim Jin Pyeong, the curiously titled 2008 indie documentary Two-eyed Ireland follows a Korean band's travels through Ireland, the origin country of their music. In 2004, Korean indie band 2nd Moon rose to mainstream attention with Seochok Haneuleh ("Westside Sky"), the theme song to the popular MBC drama Ireland. In 2007 they formed the new project Bard, a band devoted entirely to playing traditional-style Irish music with Irish instruments. To trace the roots of their music, they flew to Ireland to meet a guest artist from their album, thus beginning a hearty journey of blue skies, green grass, and jaunty music. In the spirit of musical exchange, Bard participated in local festivals, folk performances, and street performances, keeping their instruments close by everywhere they went and laying the path for this unique road film and musical documentary.

“눈을 감고 보아도 좋은 음악 다큐멘터리”라는 카피가 이보다 더 적절할 수 없는 <두 개의 눈을 가진 아일랜드>는 국내 유일의 아이리시 음악밴드 ‘두 번째 달, 바드’가 자신들을 그 매력에 푹 빠지게 했던 음악의 고향, 아일랜드를 직접 찾아갔던 음악여행의 발자취를 기록한 일종의 로드무비다.
이 영화는 지난해 제4회 제천국제음악영화제에서 국내영화로는 유일하게 경쟁부문에 초청되어 심사위원 특별언급을 받았고, 그해 9월 아트상영관들을 위주로 개봉했으며 최근에는 크로아티아에서 지난 3월 5일에서 8일까지 열렸던 음악다큐멘터리 축제 ‘DORF 2009’에 초청 상영되기도 했다.
이번에 출시된 DVD에는 다큐멘터리 본편(한국어/영문자막) 외에 푸른 하늘과 초록대지가 끝없이 이어진 아름다운 도시‘둘린’을 배경으로 한 뮤직비디오, 그리고 아일랜드 더블린에서 시작해 각종 음악 페스티벌이 열리는 크고 작은 도시를 여행한 발자취를 꼼꼼히 따라간 스틸컷 모음을 비롯해 다큐의 주인공으로 출연한 아이리시 프로젝트 밴드 바드의 각 멤버들과 제작진의 소박한 제작후기 코멘터리가 담겼다.
특히 여느 영화의 DVD와 달리 눈길을 끄는 건 스페셜 피쳐에 포함된 아일랜드 음악과 아일랜드 전통악기에 대한 멤버들의 소개 코너다. 우리에게는 다소 생소한 아이리시 음악에 대한 소개를 듣다보면 아이리시 음악에 빠질 수밖에 없었던 멤버들의 마음을 다소나마 읽을 수 있게 된다. 그리고 기타를 비롯해 아이리시 플롯, 아이리시 휘슬, 일리언 파이프, 바우런, 버튼 아코디언, 본즈 등 조금은 낯선 아이리시 악기들에 대한 설명과 함께 멤버들이 직접 선보이는 간단한 연주법 등은 그동안 아일랜드 음악에 관심 있었던 이들에게는 더없이 반가운 소중한 정보가 될 듯싶다.
