my favourite album by my favourite singer. <3

no matter what some say....this album is amazing. hikkis vocals are incredible and the music is enchanting. "passion", being my favourite song EVER is on this album and ends it perfectly....whilst "this is love" is a lively intro song for the album. hikki has said that "this is love" is like dawn, and "passion" like dusk. i agree. :) i love this album so much. and think everyone should buy it. even if you dont understand japanese well or at all, the music has such feeling to it....you dont even need to know the language to understand what the songs are about. so....everyone.....BUY THIS NOW. you wont be disappointed. :) i love you hikki! <3 |

A pleasure for the ears
| The first non-R&B inspired album from Hikki is a very good pop/dance/ballads mix. ''ULTRA BLUE'' opens with the amazing up-tempo song ''This Is Love'' and goes on with a series of experimenting sounds (the piano + violin arrengement of ''Dareka no Negai ga Kanau Koro'', the drums of ''Passion'', the ethnic sound of ''One Night Magic'', the relaxing atmosphere of ''Kairo'') which are very enjoyable. |

I like it
| This album is good because it carries a lot of weight and really focuses on the "BLUE" aspect of the album, thus entitling, "ULTRA BLUE". I definantly enjoyed all the songs and the playlist was in an interesting order and that really made the album attracting. Order really does matter. Since, "HEART STATION" just came out it really delivers MORE EMOTIONS than "ULTRA BLUE" and that album focuses on "DEATH". Though I'm not sure why she decided such a theme. |

The skinny of my review is that I'm a fan of Utada almost whatever she does. She is a very strong writer, composer, arranger and producer and I respect this greatly. Unfortunately, I think she is too involved in the Japanese music marketing machine. I have to agree that many of her songs probably benefit a lot from over-exposure if they are not actually overrated and while I understand that any artist, while he or she may be doing what she loves and making a living at it, is basically in the music business as a job and wants to get paid as well for his/her efforts as the law will allow, as a fan, I would definitely like to get more bang for my buck. After I buy half of the album content as singles with PV DVDs, it would be nice if, for my $30 plus shipping, I could get a DVD with a few short pieces that are exclusive to the Album release. I don't want to discredit Utada at all. She is an EXCELLENT musician and I will love her until I die but, please find more balance. Either give me more material that has not been floating around for six months to a year pre-album release, or give me extra stuff with the album release. PLEASE? That being said, this album is easily the strongest stop on Hikaru's path of evolution as an artist. In typical fashion, whether you find that you like the music or not, it is undeniably professional. The production is air tight and most of the melodies are as strong and catchy as always. I particularly like the fusion of different types of music found in "One Night Magic" and the uplifting and lilting chromatic progressions found in "Wings". Those two are easily my favorites of this LP and and possibly two of my top favorites of her career. Of course, the arts are always subjective and opinions will vary... STRONGLY. Either way, if you're a fan who drifted away, an old stalwart who is still deciding or someone who has heard of Hikaru and wonders what all the hype is about, check this one out! If you approach it with an open mind, you won't regret it! |

An Album of True Excellence!

This album is the best Japanese album I've EVER heard. Even though I physically bought this album for nearly twice as much this website it selling it for, to me, it was worth every penny. (In my opinion, the price posted is a great deal...) There is not ONE bad song on this album. This album has everything from dance, touching, salsa, jazz... it's purely Utada (which is a mix of everything.) No words can describe this album's originality. This album also contains the hits: Keep Tryin' Colors Be My Last & Passion (featured on the Kingdom Hearts II Game) |

Its a great album

I just bought it and I have to say that the first impression when I opened the box was.. awesome!!, the manufacturing is excellent, the booklet is of bright plastic-like paper, excellent printing and good photos. The music is good, I expected a little more but definitely is a good album, there are some great upbeat songs like "Keep tryin'" and "This is love" but some other I didn't liked much. Either way I don't regreat at all of buying it and listening over and over but I liked more the "Deep River" album. |

Really good album
| Ultra Blue is one of the best albums of 2006. I like every song (expect track 9 which was weird) from the album. My favourites are 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,11,13. I recomend this album for everyone who wants to try out something new and experimental. Well done Hikki-san you didn't dissapoint me this time either! |

Pretty album

I already knew that this album would be different. I felt that the album was rather good, but some of the album tracks weren't that amazing, but were decent, however all the tracks showed some sort of maturity. Great vocals by Hikki. Her voice seems a lot more stable than it used to be which is a good sign. Nice album with some pretty really good tracks and some decent ones. Track 1 (This Is Love) is a catchy song that was used to promote this album. It sorta've sounds similar to a lot of the songs on the album, but the whole feeling of the song is somewhat faster sounding than the others. The chorus is the strongest part of the song and makes the song shine as a whole because it's in your face, but gives a mystical feeling. Track 7 (COLORS) has been out ever since 2003. Though a lot of people complained about it being on the album before it was released, it really fits the whole theme and actually makes the album a whole. Though the verses sound somewhat boring, Hikki's emotion and power shine in the chorus, which also makes it the highlight of the song. Beautiful vocals and a beautiful arrangement. Like I said, this album has some pretty good track, though I felt some of the album tracks lagged a bit, but I need to listen to this album more because I have a feeling that it will grow on me, the more I listen to it. However, for now, i feel as though it's a rather enjoyable album with a mystcal feeling to it. |

She's done it again.
| Full of happy, uplifting emotional songs, I personally love this album. I think people who have given it a bad review are just too surprised by Hikki's talent. This is an amazing album. The standout tracks for me are Keep Tryin', Nichiyou No Asa and Be My Last. I love this album, and I hope that alot of other people feel the same way I do about it. |

Beautiful!
| I believe that the only bad reviews of this cd are because people didn't expect it to be so different. This is one of those cd's that you have to give your undivided attention to and listen 3 or 4 times to really appreciate it. I've listened to pretty much all of her other work and personally I think it has all been building up to this. All the songs are heartfelt and pure. A couple of them might even bring you to tears. There are very few cds I can put in and listen through the entire album without wanting to skip through tracks, and this is definitely one of them. The flow of the album goes up and down so you don't get bored of slow songs like a lot of other cds I have. She is the only vocalist that could ever pull off any of these songs. Her voice is so perfect. I will admit that I didn't care much for Exodus, mainly because it just seemed fake to me. This is a HUGE improvement and just what I expected after something like Exodus. I hope maybe she has learned from the last one. This definitely gives me renewed hope for my favorite singer. |
