YesAsia Editorial Description
In 2000, female dance groups such as Fin.K.L and Baby VOX dominated the Korean pop charts, so naturally all eyes were focused on the debut of a new male duo called UN ("United N Generation"). The two members contrasted not only in their outer appearances, but also in their vocal styles. Kim Jung Hoon (who later starred in Palace) projected a prince-like noble image with his soft features and vocals, and caused quite a stir with the media by continuing to matriculate at Seoul University as a dental student. His partner-in-crime, Choi Jung Won, formerly a member of the dance group Bronze, had a hunky heartthrob image and matched it up with tough, rugged vocals. Together, they formed an ensemble that mesmerized the fans.
UN generated three big hits with their debut album - Voice Mail (Track1), You Are The One (Track 4), and "For Eternity" (Track 7) - an achievement most new artists rarely get to taste. UN Vol.1 is produced by husband-and-wife composing team Lee Jung Hyun and Choi Soo Jung. Voice Mail (Track 2) tells a story about a boy who is tormented after discovering that his girlfriend's terminal illness was the true reason behind her wanting to end the relationship. This song was an instant hit among teens and makes literal reference to an "N Generation" style of communication.

Decent First Album
|
Two different artists with contrasting styles complimenting each other very nicely---that, is UN. An ok album by all means which clearly demonstrates that these guys are still trying to find the music that's right for them. Giving us an array of styles to choose from, it's evident that they can perform multiple-genres. When I first heard this album, I thought that they would be more suited for a ballad career. Today, six years later, I still believe that. Yet, this album's main spark is actually a hip and fast track, "Pyeongsaeng" (Track #7). It's so fun to listen to even after half a decade has passed. |

Try it, you'll like it!
| I bought UN's second release (Traveling You) first and loved it so much that I had to get this one ... and I wasn't disappointed! I really like UN's singing style and their voices go well together. The selection of songs cover a wide range of styles so I was always surprised and never bored. But don't take my word for it. Find out for yourself! |

Whoohoo!
| Wow, these guys are so cute, and boy, are they talented! Don't they kinda remind you of Heero and Duo from Gundam Wing? I liked these guys the minute I took the risk of ordering a CD from a group I had no previous experience with. Probably one of the smartest things I've ever done. |
