YesAsia Editorial Description

Chinese songstress alan has released 8 singles since her debut in Japan in November 2007, and her highly anticipated first J-pop album finally comes out in March 2009. Voice of EARTH contains all these singles, which include the first one Ashita heno Sanka and the "Five Elements of Earth" series (one of which is the movie theme song for Red Cliff), in addition to 5 new tracks. The album is all about "love & peace", which is a running theme in the works of the singer from Tibet.

The DVD has 9 music videos, including a new version of Natsukashii Mirai ~longing future~ featuring a backing chorus of grade school children, plus the making-of video for the latest single Gunjo no Tani.

alan's cosmic connection
War, hatred, despair, pollution... all the negativity of existence stands a better chance of finding a cure, if Mother Earth has a mouthpiece like alan.

This is the verdict this editor reached after basking in the bliss that is Voice of EARTH, alan's first J-pop album. The emerging vocal revelation has established her position thanks in no small part to her unique background. Born in Sichuan, China of Tibetan descent, and raised in the "Beauty Valley", Alan Dawa Dolma received training in erhu and vocal music growing up. The fairy caught the attention of Japan music giant Avex in an audition, and after graduating from Beijing's PLA Arts Academy, she embarked on the road to international stardom.

As a newcomer, alan's ethereal beauty may have given her a head start, her ethnic characteristics a blessing, but it is her aspirations and accomplishments that are fundamental to a long-term success. That said, her music is above chart positions or sales figures. There is a far grander purpose for her.

Since Nov 2007, alan has released 8 singles on the theme of Nature and our relationship with her, including 5 consecutive singles representing the "Five Elements of Earth" (earth, sky, wind, fire, water). This gives her music an almost spiritual quality, and that goes perfectly with her signature "Tibetan wail" technique with which she hits very high notes, reaching far and beyond and also deep inside, coursing through the universe while resonating with the soul.

Being an ambassador of peace and love helps alan bridge the cultural gap, as does the two-part Chinese movie Red Cliff, which has brought the Sichuan songbird worldwide recognition. Her ending theme for Red Cliff I (also the fire element single) carries a hauntingly beautiful sound that only gets more epic and more affecting in her follow-up for Red Cliff II, to be released as her 9th single.

A milestone for alan, the aptly titled Voice of EARTH includes the 8 singles thus far plus 7 new songs, and the overall quality does inspire hopes of a bigger and better future. Some of the album cuts even manage to give this editor goosebumps from the awe, especially with the opening and closing pair of "Celestial Maiden ~interlude~" and "Together" (the latter being the singer's first composition), in which the divine diva pleads to everyone to save our precious planet. We, mere mortals, will happily take heed.

Fantastic debut album Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
I love this artist's style, her tibetan influences work really well in her songs and she has an incredible vocal range. She has a deep voice but it goes perfectly with her songs, and she can reach really high notes as well. My favourite thing about this artist is her tibetan wail that sounds perfect everytime and is in most of her songs.

The Tibetian Songstress tackles Japan full force! Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
Well, she actually debuted in 2007, and then released eight singles before this album, but most of those singles were comlete amazingness (even the b-sides (which weren't included))! This album overall is pretty solid with only a few "meh" track *coughLibertycough*. It is also mainley composed of ballads, but when she does faster mid-tempoish songs, they are pretty amazing, like BRAVE and Sora Uta. Together is also a pretty good track that alan composed and wrote lyrics for. This album is definitely one of the best of 2009 and in my opinion, better than Kuu's TRICK and Ayu's NEXT LEVEL (which I already listened to 50 times and still am).

Favorite Tracks: Ashita e no Sanka, RED CLIFF ~Shin Sen~, Sora Uta, Gunjou no Tani, BRAVE, Tsuki ga Watashi, Together, and Tennyo ~interlude~ (which is completely amazing)

Ok Tracks: Megumi no Ame, my friend, Yume no Garden, Hitotsu, Kaze no Tegami, and Natsukushii Mirai

Generic/Crappy tracks: Liberty -so generic and horrible-

The rock version of Shin Sen is also pretty good, but not hardcore enough for my tastes.
Overall score: 9.5/10

but now the album finally came!! and its AMAZING! no song dissapoints, and in Natsukashii Mirai she even plays the erhu. yep, you heard it, she plays ERHU!!! omg she is so amazing T___T

the whole album gives you this magical and happy feeling and it;s also really catchy. Just look at Sora Uta,you cant get that song out of your head.
Ashita e no Sanka is wonderful to listen to if you are sad or just if you want to hear something that will take your breath away.
the song she composed herself, Together, is such an amazing song! her vocals are stunning and make you want to listen to more and more alan~

All the singles are from top-quality, and although the abum-songs arent (well.. BRAVE and Together are!), you will still love them (atleast i did) cuz they are very simple, but sweet and lovable ♥♥

overal, i give this album a 9.8/10. yup, a 9.8 THAT'S HOW AMAZING IT IS T____T
