Quite Possibly my Favorite songs of all time. Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
I was a student in Okinawa when this song came out, and heard just the tail end (about 30 seconds) of it on a radio program. I was so impressed by it I went directly to the local record store and purchased it. That was almost a year ago and I still listen to it at least once a day. Being a fan of minyo, it seemed like this song was made just for my tastes. It's blends minyo and with popular Japanese music, and does so rather sucessfully. It does this sucessfully because of her pure and well refined voice. As many other reviewers have mentioned she is considered "a once in a century" voice. I must say that I can agree with this without any reservation. More amazing is that she was able to achieve stardom and fame for her song foregoing the usual route taken by japanese musicians. That of gaining fame by having a corporate tie in for the song, as in a commercial spot selling cars or something to that effect. She was able to get noticed by word of mouth, or in other words because of her talent. I think that this song will stand the test of time not be forgotten a few weeks or monthes later like many of the other sucessful songs that make up the average J- pop top 100 lists. I consider this a must buy for anyone who appreciates good musicianship.

The voice is the one in one hundred years Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
Her voice is called the only one in these one hundred years in Japan. She was born in a small island near Okinawa. She had been singing Shima-Uta(a traditional song) in her childhood. She won the first prize when she was a highschool student. After she graduate, she began to work a beauty salon. But it is not her place.
She decided to become a singer.
Her voice is really strange. The way is a Japanese traditional way. Tradition meets modern, and combined to one.

Original Singing Style Customer Review Rated Bad 9 - 9 out of 10
I bought this CD while on a business trip to Tokyo in April 2002, after listening to lots of boring J-Pop in Shinjuku's main record megastores. She has a truly original singing style, that is at the same time familiar and strange to European ears. The more often you listen to it, the more you get used to those slight pitch variations, and the more you appreciate it. I would love to hear more from Hajime Chitose, a complete album for example. Maybe some less relaxed tunes could add a little freshness and optimism ... Peter, Munich, Germany
