There are a number of things in the entries that you probably won't understand until you get your Japanese up to a high standard, but even so for the most part the basic core meanings are there in English and most words will be used in simple example sentences in both languages giving you a good idea of their proper context and use.
Really I have no real complaints about this product and any little niggles I may have are largely compensated for by the price. I doubt that you'll find any other electronic dictionaries that are as good for what you pay as this one, and a lot of dictionaries that are more expensive may not have some of the features that this one has.
