The movie is very funny and based on a true story (which happened back in 1986). The end performance is very well done. We got the Hong Kong version, as those are way cheaper and have English subtitles.

Fun family fare Customer Review Rated Bad 8 - 8 out of 10
"WaterBoys" is a sweet-natured, enjoyable comedy about a group of high school boys who join together to form a synchronized swimming team that will perform at their school's annual festival.

The film is slow to get off the ground, with the opening 20 minutes featuring too much low comedy of pratfalls and slapstick. However, once the boys begin their practices, "WaterBoys" begins to take flight.

While the film's premise is outlandish, the interactions among the ensemble cast feel genuine and it is the good nature of the kids that pulls the movie together and gets the viewer rooting for them.

"WaterBoys" is a lot of fun for the entire family. I highly recommend it.

i didn't know if i wanted to try this movie because i don't understand Japanese at all. but people keep on telling me that it's good and funny and all. i gave in and watched it and had to keep reading the subtitle. not something i like to do but under the circumstances i had to. it was good. it had its funny moments here and there. the lead actor is very young looks like a high school kid as is who is portraying. the swimming was good.

This is such an awesome movie!
Not only was I nearly in tears from laughter the entire time, but once it was over, I had to fight the urge to watch it several more times.
You will not be disappointed by this movie, at all, it's a must see!

 The best Japanese comedy I have ever seen!!! Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
This movie is just pure comedic genius. I came across the movie after I saw some of the episodes of the FUJI series WATERBOYS and WATERBOYS 2, so I knew I had to buy the movie. I laughed so hard the first time I saw this movie, and I just about pissed my pants when Sato's afro went on fire! When I later watched it with my friend, we re-wound that chaotic scene [with the faulty boombox] about three times. (Did anybody else catch one of the boys' swimming trunks fall off right before the boombox sparked? XD) If you are still somehow skeptical about buying this movie, think of it this way--where else do you get to see nearly-naked Japanese boys running around and getting wet for an hour and a half? Yeah, I thought so.

I saw this movie in my Japanese class and I loved it. It was so funny, I had to buy it. I watched it with my family and we all laughed trouhght the whole film!
You can watch it again and again and still laugh.One of the funniest movies I've ever seen!

A real gem of a movie Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
I purchased the 2 disk VCD set of Water Boys figuring if it was not that great it would not be a big loss. Turns out it is GREAT! We loved this movie. My wife and I are 50+ and our daughter is 25 years old. We watched Water Boys together and laughed out loud. The cinematography is very professional, the sound is fine and the video playback(on our multi-region DVD player) was flawless.

If you want a fun 90 minutes of quality entertainment this is the film.
