　　充滿愛心的兒科醫生基斯在車禍中不幸喪生，他來到了一處彷似妻子安妮筆下所畫寧靜而色彩動人的仙境。但離開安妮令他心碎，他像一個被掏空的軀殼，在仙境流離。

　　而在人間，受不住失去摯愛的痛苦，安尼毅然離開孤單的人世。但所有自殺死去的人都要下地獄，基斯得知此消息後，心急如焚；為了與安妮見面，基斯毅然走進地獄。縱使他可能永不超生，但對他而言，這不是天堂與地獄的選擇，因他心只有一個答案——找到安妮！

　　After his untimely death, Chris delights in the knowledge that Heaven for him exists within one of Annie's, his be-loved wife's, magnificent paintings. He rejoices in the awe and majesty of this Painted World, replete with the memories and romantic dreams he once shared with her. Yet even in this paradise, Chris feels unfulfilled without Annie. On earth, Annie cannot endure life without Chris so she attempts suicide. However, there is no hope of them being reunited as suicides go to hell. Shocked by the news, Chris embarks on an epic odyssey through heaven and hell to free Annie.
