父親死後，小康變的怕黑，半夜反鎖房門，尿急也不敢出來小便，老覺得父親的鬼魂在屋裡走動。
白天他在台北車站外面的天橋賣手錶，來的一位明天就要出國旅遊的湘琪，看上他手上帶著的一隻舊款手錶，求他割愛；按風俗，父親喪期未過七週，小康身上用過的東西如果給別人就會令對方倒霉，湘琪卻不信這一套，好說歹說，他脫下錶給她並建議她一到國外，下飛機就在地上翻個跟斗，便可驅除霉運。
湘琪走後，小康莫名的想念起她，卻對她一無所知，只知道她去了遙遠的巴黎，他心血來潮，在那封閉幽暗，佈滿死亡氣息又輾轉難眠的房裡，他撥電話問電訊局巴黎的時間；原來台北比巴黎快了七個鐘頭，於是他逐隻將他賣的手錶的時針往後轉往後轉往後轉……
