YesAsia Editorial Description

Opposites attract in Windstruck, the successful 2004 romantic comedy/drama from writer/director Kwak Jae Yong, the man behind the 2001 box office mega hit My Sassy Girl! Jang Hyuk, star of such films as Volcano High and Please Teach Me English, takes on the role of Myung Woo, a mild-mannered teacher who gets mistaken for a purse snatcher while chasing the real culprit down! To Myung Woo's surprise, he finds himself arrested by Gyeong Jin, a gung-ho, tough-as-nails young cop played by none other than Jeon Ji Hyun, star of My Sassy Girl and Il Mare.

Although this hilarious case of mistaken identity is eventually sorted out, Myung Woo has to return to the police station only a few days later in order to carry out some "community service" by accompanying a police officer while he walks his day-to-day beat. However, Myung Woo is shocked to learn that he's going to be following "Dirty Harriet" herself, Gyeong Jin! After spending the entire night handcuffed to his sexy, but dangerous partner as she chases down no-good criminals, Myung Woo begins to discover that he's falling for the brassy, and yet, sassy law enforcement agent! But as a relationship begins to develop between the two, will Gyeong Jin's over-enthusiastic police tactics get in the way of her love for Myung Woo? Is "happily ever after" even a possibility for these two? The answers to these questions and more are waiting to be discovered in Windstruck, a film which many fans regard as an unofficial companion piece to My Sassy Girl!

Professional Review of "Windstruck (DVD) (2-Disc) (Korea Version)"

    February 16, 2009

This professional review refers to Windstruck (Hong Kong Version)
One of the most eagerly anticipated films of 2004, WINDSTRUCK, saw the reunion of the director and star of MY SASSY GIRL, the huge, huge comedy hit of 2001. WINDSTRUCK sold a ton of tickets and became one of the highest grossers of the year so far, coming in just behind SPIDER-MAN 2. The flick starts with a splat as Jeon Ji-Hyun dives off an office building to her death, then we whip back in time to see what got her teetering on the edge in the first place. She's a police officer, eternally mourning the death of her twin sister when she's not beating down street punks and looking hot in her uniform. She accidentally arrests physics teacher, Jang Hyuk, and, one drug bust gone bad, one street fight, and two handcuffings later, they're dating. Things don't go smoothly, however, and tears flow like rivers, people die, shoot-outs ensue, and did I mention that tears flow like rivers? Jeon Ji-Hyun might just be one of the most photogenic weepers in modern film.

The flick is unevenly paced, with gut-busting comedy right next to hideous trauma, and by the third ending of the movie you'll be begging for it to just pick one ending -- any ending -- and roll the credits, but something has happened since MY SASSY GIRL: Jeon has become an amazing actress, and Director Kwak has learned to trust her. She eats up the screen like a predator, and Kwak sometimes just lets the camera sit on her while she works her way emotionally through a scene, and it works. It may be uneven (and the ending is already making people annoyed because it is annoying) but any movie that can make you laugh out, and then cry, is worth seeing.

No replay value at all... Customer Review Rated Bad 4 - 4 out of 10
This particular movie is a love comedy. You might think that "this one is easy" but you are mistaken, the plot has a very "heavy" (and sad) ending which in my honest opinion does not fit to the rest of the movie at all. After watching the movie I noticed that I didn't have the desire to watch it again. If it didn't have the comedy component inside then things might have been different and the entire pack would have been more "together", in my opinion this would have suited this movie better. The thing which earned two stars was the acting, both lead characters did their job brilliantly. Overall: not a bad movie but it is not plot-wise something which I find pleasing.

the worst movie.... Customer Review Rated Bad 0 - 0 out of 10
This is the worst movie i've ever seen, and i don't understand why so many people like it. The story is horrible and boring. THroughout the whole movie, i kept waiting for the climax, and before you knew it, it was over! Horrible. It's not a good love story, there was no development, and it was dry and completely cliched

Not what expected Customer Review Rated Bad 5 - 5 out of 10
Not what I had expected at all. The cover of the dvd is what made me tempted to get this movie. SIGH SIGH SIGH I gave this one to the waitress at the Korean restaurant I frequent. Windstruck is a tiny bit better than My Sassy Girl. The story is more coherent and understandable. The theme is rather depressing. In the beginning it is funny with Jang Hyuck and Jeon Ji Hyun. From there it went depressing and sad. And the ending is an explanation as to why and what happens in My Sassy Girl. This movie connects with My Sassy Girl. Yes My Sassy Girl came before Windstruck. But the story of Windstruck is before the story of My Sassy Girl.

    Myungwoo/Gyeonwoo Customer Review Rated Bad 8 - 8 out of 10
This movie was quite enjoyable, but you have to go into it with an open mind. Many parts of it are a little unrealistic, and often you wonder how much time has really passed. But I believe that the deepset emotions that pour from this film make up for any of its shortcomings. Some may say that the characters are underdeveloped, and I can't say I disagree entirely. But despite a relative obliviousness to the depth of the character, I certainly felt sympathy and understanding for them.

Jeon Ji-Hyun's acting was SUPERB as usual. Jang Hyuk was charming and amusing as usual. If there is anything you can't complain about, it's the acting.

I felt like the entire movie was as much of a fairy tale as the well-produced story Jeon Ji-Hyun's character told was. You can't think of it as some really relateable love story... it is merely a story about love. Love is all you have to understand (to a certain degree of course) to get this movie.

As for the references to My Sassy Girl, they were quite fun, but they definetly don't match up. But Kwak Jae-Young could easily explain it as if it's like a parallel universe or a time-travel thing that connects the worlds/movies.

I honestly think that this movie could have worked much better as a mini-series. Kwak Jae-Young... make us a spectacular tv show with your wonderful story-writing!
