Definitely a new direction for them... Customer Review Rated Bad 8 - 8 out of 10
Although the only song I heard prior to this album was "Kageh," which is a very well-written song, I ascertained that their style has changed, assuming that all the other past songs were alike. "Kageh," although coming from this group of a gothic theme was very ungothic sounding, but nonetheless very technical rock. This album immediately rushes you through scream-rock, putting their sound closer to their theme. It's not as fast as heavy metal, nor quite as loud as nu-metal, but imagine heavy, down-tuned guitars to accompany somewhat indistinct melodies. Still, it works. They put in some heavy screaming and yelling that is quite convincing. I didn't know Kyo had it in him! If I'm not mistaken, they are the first in J-rock to try this. It ends up pretty good. Something original is usually what fans are looking for. My favorite track is "Showtime."

I am beginning to like this album. Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
When I first heard I was like, where the hell did Diru go? I thought the songs were horribly composed and the lyrics lame. But the more I listened to it the more I got used to thier new style. It was hard. Me being not so much a big VULGAR and me hating Six Ugly to death.

But.

Withering to death is a nice collection of solid nu-metal based rock. It's sounds like late Linkin Park or a more - indie take on Slipknot. (Kaoru loves both of those bands by the way)

My favorite song is Itoshisa fuhai ni tsuki. Yes, it starts off as a calm soothing melody into Kaoru's guitar which then Die takes over. And you can Totchi good in this song, and Shinya he s beautiful as ever.

Though I miss the VK - indies day (Missa - Kisou) I will support my favorite band.

Kakkoii!! Customer Review Rated Bad 9 - 9 out of 10
"Withering To Death" was my first album I'd gotten by Dir En Grey. After waiting anxciously for 45 minutes to listen to it I was not dissapointed at all when I popped it into my CD player. Now I listen to it almost all the time. Most of the songs lean towards a heavier sound but are still very enjoyable. The lyrics, as always are amazing and really make you think. All-in-all it is a wonderful CD I recommend the song "Machievalism"

My experiences Customer Review Rated Bad 9 - 9 out of 10
First of all, I want to say that I'm a Jrock fan for almost 11yrs now. I also know Diru from the beginning on. I think this cd deserves a better rating. In fact, it's in my top 3 album. Of course, Kisou will still be the best in my opinion, but anyway.. Withering to death CAN be seen as an evolution... the disappearance of (long) guitar solos into interesting riffs. I dont know how many of you are musicians.. well, I am. And I can tell you this: Wtd is quite unique in its own way: it's quite passive aggression... so, of course: Vulgar fans would be disappointed.. But I think if you start to listen it again and once more.. you would come to another conclusion. Anyway, what I'm hoping for, is that the nice guitar solo's come back... which reminds me to Macabre period...
All together.. Deg is changing its style quite frequently, but they still sound unique and aggressive in its own 'stubborn' way.. which I like.

Dir en grey has done it again Customer Review Rated Bad 8 - 8 out of 10
Of course, since I've been listening to Dir en Grey since I was 11, this new cd was odd to me at first. I first cd The Final about a year ago, and I was estatic about the cd coming out in America. So yes, I didn't like the cd much, but after listening to it for a bit, I realized I loved it! Some of my favourite songs on there are: 10. The Final (of course), 6. Jesus Christ R'n R, 14. Kodou (Anyone seen the new video? Awesome), 8. Machiavellisn, and 2. C.

And...that shall be it.

Hmmm.... Customer Review Rated Bad 6 - 6 out of 10
Dir en Grey is my favorite J-Rock band. I adore their diverse styles in music and their combined talent is astonishing. "Withering to Death" does not amount to the material that they have made previous to this release. I give the album a 6 because I feel that "Jesus Christ R&R", "The Final", "Kodou", "C", and "Machiavellism" save the album from being a total trian wreak. While the new fans may like it older Diru fans probely will turn away from this album.

errmm.. Customer Review Rated Bad 5 - 5 out of 10
hardly their greatest effort. dir en grey has always captivated me because of the dark beauty that they somehow manage to capture in their music, no matter how loud and crazy it can get. however, the best word i can use to describe this album, after being used to their previous music, is noise. withering to death does not display their diversity as a band, nor does it do justice to the fame that they have won. it is not a bad album, but it is not a good one either, and for those who have been their loyal followers for years, it certainly does not make the cut.

Withering to Death Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
I loved this cd. It has to be one of their bests, every song is diverse and carries deep feelings which are expressed perfectly in the lyrics, along with the music.

Bravo...I tip my hat to you. Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
This album is basically a catharsis of all the lives of the members of the band Dir en Grey. From their previous songs....they changed alot with the sounds of the songs. It brought me to tears when I heard the song 'The Final'. The song sounded like someone was trying to hold onto their life but with a strong bitterness within them. I loved the entire cd...it was a cd that you could listen to all the way through.
