Yes, it was a good album, however, compaired with to their older music, it is nothing memorable (unless you've just gotten into them within the past two years or less and haven't experienced their older music). You know, when I first bought this cd, I was excited. But then after three days I forgot that I owned it. I owned it since the release date and I've honestly listened to it about two or three times all the way through. It's been quite a few months now since I owned this album. There are some good songs on here, but there are few and even some of the good songs I've gotten tired of. Songs from Kisou, Macabre, and Gauze are songs I can listen to over and over and never get tired. In short: it is a good album, but this is no where near as good as they used to be and I'm sure as hell that if they were amazing a couple of years ago that they still have the potential to be amazing. It's just that they haven't been with this album. And people wonder why the older fans dislike this album. Hmn. |

Glad to see them back.
| Diru has made me happy yet again. I absolutely LOVE the lyrics, I always have and even if they change their sound and look, the lyrics will always come to be what I like. They have evolved from visual Kei, to...not-so-visual Kei. They made have toned down their clothes and makeup, but all of the members command an awesome presence. Something of an aura of strength and greatness. |

A decent album
| Dir en Grey has been one of the first bands to change my taste in music and bring me into the japanese rock scene and have loved them since the begining. This new album is definately different from their previous, and while I do not think any of the songs match up to songs of the past it does have a few that I find quite addictive. I do wish Kyo would scream a little less but you still see some of his old style of vocals poping up at times. I still really like it though and do think it is worth getting if you are a fan, just do not expect the album to be what you are used to. |

I've taken this from a post I made over at the audioscrobbler forums. I think it sums up what I think of Dir en grey's new... 'approach.' "For those of you justifying Diru's less-than-astounding new stuff as "evolution," I beg you to read this definition. Now, generally speaking, it mentions some things... 1) Becoming different. Well, yes, Dir en grey is obviously quit different nowadays. 2) Becoming complex. Here's where the problem lies. Let's see, Kyo used to do more than a growl/scream (considering the dark, angsty mood the band's always had, he managed a fair amount of diversity in his vocals); and didn't we use get some used to get some guitar solos on nearly all of their older songs? Strange... they seem to be going backwards! Even their makeup is less inventive. Not that it added much to begin with (the whole visual thing is pretty gimmicky, you have to admit), but now we have to look at Kyo (ugly little guy ;_;) covered in a bland BLACK? When I saw the -saku- PV I realized he looked like people at my high school who think wearing a spiked bracelet makes them "hardcore." I want the outfits of Myaku back. I thought you said they were evolving? I love Diru as much as the next guy, and I even got into them with VULGAR, but I'll be the first to admit that their newer stuff is considerably more shallow than what you'll find in GAUZE or MACABRE. It's sad, really, to think they aren't likely to produce anything on the same level as "aint afraid to die" or "Mazohyst of Decadence" ever again." Withering to death will please you if you're taste is in largely uninspired music. Diru newbies might love it, but if you're a fan of the old stuff - or, heck, a fan of good music- don't bother with it. |

Pretty Good
| This album is a little bit more on the screamy side than the others. I like it, but one or two of the songs sound kind of generic (they just have to grow on me a little). However, I still really like Withering To Death and I recommend it to fans of heavy metal and the like. |

Damn good headbanging!!
| I don't noe why the heck some of DEG fans wasn't like this album.. I personally like it very much not because I'm a new fan of DEG. Its because their music are evolving and not juz always stick at one era only.. Try to accept something new and revolutionize.... |

Absolutely Fantastic
| Withering to Death is certainly one of the best DEG albums ever. With its mixture of styles coupled with Kyo's unmistakable vocals, this album is a must-have for all DEG fans. |
