Still Dir en grey. Still awesome. Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
Aight, people, listen up: yes, Dir en grey's music has changed over the years and yes it does sound substantially Western as of late. But you have to understand, Dir en grey is a band. They are not some single entity, they are a group of guys; they're people. People are inspired. People grow. And when it comes to music, these inspirations and that growth leads to gradual yet incredibly noticable changes. Dir en grey has gone through such an evolution, and still is to this day. Yes, they sound much more Western and nu-metal-like now, but that does not mean that their music has gotten worse, or even better. It just means that they are evolving and trying new things. They're still Dir en grey, and they're still one of the best bands (from the East or the West) around today. Besides that, though, if you're looking for continuity and for the feel of old school Dir en grey, the root of their amazing music has always been (and will always be) Kyo's surreal and sometimes menacingly deep (haha, yes, "menacingly deep") lyrics, and in Withering to Death, they are there just as they have been since Missa. So, don't fear their Western style. Just know that they are growing as a group... and they're still brilliant.

Well... what should I say? Customer Review Rated Bad 8 - 8 out of 10
I don't know what to think of this album. It is Dir en grey, and I do love Dir en grey, but... I think they have become too Western. In this new music I can't hear almost anything Dir-en-greyish. Of course it's Dir en grey, but when I listen to Withering to death, I'm wondering would I know it's Dir en grey if I didn't already know?... I didn't love Vulgar but it was good. In Vulgar I can still hear that old Dir en grey that I love with all my heart. But can I hear it in Withering to death? I don't know, I don't really know. I just wish they wouldn't think of Europe so much but their own unique music style that they are definitely losing.

I absolutly love this album and I love Dir En grey. One of my fridens referred me to them, and I am forever in her debt. An excellent band, I myself highly recommend them. This album is fresh and as creative as ever.

Absolutely Amazing! Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
Never have I heard anything as different as Dir en Grey. They are the first Japanesse rock band for me to hear, and they are also by far the best. Now, I don't know very much, but what I do know is that Dir en Grey are a force to be reckoned with. I neber was into all that shouting and yelling, but this acutally had feeling with it. Thie 'feeling' is what makes Dir en Grey better than it's competitors! I rate this at it's best!

It was good Customer Review Rated Bad 8 - 8 out of 10
It was good, however I think there is too much screaming on Kyo's part. There's only one song, ONE song where Kyo is not screaming (which also happens to be my favorite on the album-- HIGEKI HA MABUTA WO OROSHITA YASASHIKI UTSU). I think this is a pretty good album, don't get me wrong, songs such as "Dead Tree", "The Final", "Machiavellism", "Jesus Christ R'n R", and "ITOSHISA HA FUHAI NITSUKI" are amazing, and I think those are what I'd call the "shining star" songs on this album. I never liked Saku that much and I really really disliked Garbage.
Overall, however, this album has LOTS of viarity, more-so than Vulgar which pleased me! They also brought back some of their sounds from Kisou and Macabre which, being a fan for five years, made me nostalgic but at the same time very happy.
Overall I say if you like Dir en grey it is worth purchasing. If you are first getting into them, however, I'd reccomend purchasing Gauze or Macabre first, then later purchase Withering to Death.

Good Customer Review Rated Bad 9 - 9 out of 10
Dir en grey has certainly come a long way since their days of Missa. It is grateful that they have evolved with every new album. Can you imagine if they had continued the style of missa and gauze? They had managed to portray a different type of hell in each albums. Withering to death is the latest one. Each and every song contributes to the image the world each album portrays. thus, you couldn't possibly compare the albums with one another. Each of their albums is worth your time. Believe me,there isn't many bands out there in the world, lest Asia, as epic and wonderful as dir en grey.this is certainly one of the albums you must buy for the cohesive yet diverse sound. An album which contains songs that get more and more into shape as you listen to it.

They do it again Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
I recieved a copy of Withering to Death the other day, not expecting it to be as good as other Dir en Grey albums due to some of the bad reviews given on here. However, I was totally blown away by the music put on this album. Dir en Grey, even after nine years of playing, still is going strong as ever. Though I do like Gauze, I have to admit that I like Dir en Grey's new style. I'm very proud of Dir en Grey for not grouping itself in the same hole as other visual kei bands who typically are just in it for the looks and the fangirls rather than the music. If you liked bands such as Linkin Park, Velvet Revolver, and Shinedown, you might like DeG's Withering to Death. Five stars from me

<3 Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
This album is EXCELLENT. I will keep this short and sweet. ~_^ I'm a Dir en grey fan of 3 years. Here's some somple not-so-complex reviews of each song on Withering.
Merciless Cult-- This is a good song to open the album with. It's not my favourite song on the album, but it's worth the money you spend.

C-- C...what can I say? It's very Diru. I love it. It did take me a few listens to aquire the taste of it, but it left me hungry for more ^^;

Saku-- Saku...saku saku saku.. I do love this song.. so I'm not going to say anything BAD about it..but I've over-listend to it juuust a bit.

Itoshisa ha fuhai nitsuki-- This. song. is. beautiful. I am soo very much in love with it..I've listened to it at LEAST 2 times a day EVERYday for the past MONTH and I'm STILL not sick of it :DDD

Jesus Christ R'n R-- Hahaha!! I LOVE this track! It puts me in such a wonderful mood. ^^=D chaaaa It's VERY MUCH worth purchaseing the CD

GARBAGE-- I forced my family to listen to this one..and the outcome? <3 It was actually ..positive?? Yes, you heard it. ^^; They LIKED it. Maybe it was Kyo's singing the "You can't catch me, you can't catch me! Can blind birds fly? They can't." Haha, I really don't know. I'm in love with this as well though XD

Machiavellism-- The first time I heard this song I wasn't to fond of it, but I tottally missed the meaning. Now I actually listen to it..I'd still have to say it would be better if it didn't sound so "smooshed" ..? Sorry I'm being hard to understand. This was all in all a good song, but not a favorite.

dead tree-- Awwwwww...<333 ^^; *crys* this is sooo beautiful.. I love it. If you buy the CD for ANY reason..make this your reason.

THE FINAL-- Most of us have heard this before. I love it. That's all i'm gonna say.

Spilled Milk-- I love this song..it's just plain Diru. I love the whole way it's composed. I wouldn't change a thing.

Beautiful Dirt-- Aw..this is lovely in it's own way. VERY Kyo <3 I like it sooooo much ^-^

Higeki ha mabuta wo oroshita yashasiki utsu-- *gasp for breath* haha no "Merciless Cult" pun intended..XD ..just a reaallly long title. =P Anyway..I like the softer calming style of this song, but it isn't somthing I'd put on "repeat"

KODOU-- By far my most beloved song on the entire album..they should have put it on there more than once. XD

-----------All in All------------------
All in all, this album is DEFINATELY worth the $$$ Go buy it, you won't be let down. It's another great dir en grey masterpice.

????? Customer Review Rated Bad 6 - 6 out of 10
I've been a fan of Dir en Grey for 4+ years now. I like this album, 'cuz it's Dir en Grey and they're one of my favorite bands. On the plus side, the lyrics booklet comes with english translations of the kanji which shows that the guys are paying more attention to their english-speaking fans, but the style of the songs is noticeably more westernized, something that started with the release of "Vulgar". Kyo did a good job countering the "western-ness" of the music tho with his unique vocals. And, while i didn't skip any of the songs on the album, none of them -really- caught my attention like some of their older songs have.

Review for Withering Customer Review Rated Bad 9 - 9 out of 10
I really enjoy listening to this CD. Every track from start to finish is solid; I find it rare these days to find an album that keeps me from wanting to skip particular songs. I am relatively new to Dir en grey (I started listening from Vulgar) but I do prefer their metal approach when compared to the few songs I've heard in their older style.
One pestering thing about this album--though it's not really the band's fault--is how it manages to score countless reviews written by fangirls who hardly speak English, know nothing about music, fail to think coherently, and have an undying need to end every sentence with an exclaimation mark. For the love of god, please stop. I hate them with every inch of my body, and I'm pretty sure Dir would find them to be just as dumb.
