Though a sequel to Witness To A Prosecution, Witness To A Prosecution II features a new cast, except for lead Bobby Au-Yeung who plays the chief coroner Sung Chee. Fans still see the witty and funny Sung Chee whom they are familiar with, and at the same time enjoy his new chemistries with the brand new characters. The story still follows the daily life of a coroner, but the new elements create new excitements for viewers. Bobby Au-Yeung continues to deliver a first-class performance with his superb ability to handle comedic scenes, sealing his reputation as one of the best comedians in TVB. This time, he pairs up with the charming Charmaine Sheh, who shows continuous improvements since joining the showbiz through the 1997 Miss Hong Kong Pageant. Stephen Au gives a solid performance per usual as a good-for-nothing guy who becomes a determined student of Sung Chee. He displays great chemistry with both Joyce Tang and Halina Tam.

The story continues from Witness To A Prosecution where Sung Chee (Bobby Au-Yeung) goes to the palace to receive his title as the Chief Coroner. His two wives accompany him there, but get killed on their way back. The downtrodden Sung Chee believes that he is fated to be alone for the rest of his life. He thus resigns and leaves his hometown, ending up in Chongyuan County where he befriends Pearl (Charmaine Sheh), Dragon (Stephen Au) and Phoenix (Joyce Tang). With their help, Chee solves many cases without letting people know his real identity. Phoenix has feelings for Dragon but he falls for Pearl's beautiful yet hypocritical sister (Halina Tam). Pearl and Chee love each other, but Chee cannot forget his wives. Believing in his lonesome destiny, he escapes from Pearl's love to avoid bringing bad luck to her.

SUNG CHI (AU YEUNG CHUN WAH) lives as a recluse after the death of his two wives. YUK CHU (SHEH CHARMAINE) is notorious for bringing bad luck to other people so she works as an embalmer trying to hide away from the others. Somehow, CHU loses money because of CHI, so he agrees to work for her to compensate her loss. With the help of CHI, CHU has cracked many difficult cases. CHI has fallen for CHU, yet the cannot forget his wives. He turns down CHU in case he brings bad luck to her too. Later, when CHU almost scars her face in an accident, CHI overcomes his worry and proposes to her. Meanwhile, CHU is suspected of killing her stepmother, and has been badly beaten up. He leaves quietly again, thinking that he is truly causing bad luck to his lovers.
