Super Dance! Customer Review Rated Bad 8 - 8 out of 10
Like most of Electronic Queen Yumiko’s CDs this new Mandarin “Wonderful Time” album features the usual YC trademark dance/ electronica alongside several ballad songs. “Wonderful Time” though does relate heavily to Y’s previous canto album “Super Model” including three Mandarin vocal remix versions of “Super Model” (trk 9), “Full Moon” (trk 5) and “Dancing on the Cloud” (trk 10). The “Super Model” mixed tracks though have Mandarin alternative titles, but apart from Yumiko’s Mandarin vocals are only slightly different versions to the originals. “Super Model’s” dance fueled electronica is certainly evident again here on “Wonderful Time’s” new songs, having rhythmic up beat electronic pop blended with Yumiko’s usual whimsical style. A couple of ballads, too, so it’s not all dance stuff! The synth pop dance floor tracks though are 1, 2, 4 and 8 in predominance with track 8 “Not My Cup of Tea” being the biggest contender. In fact this version is the best synth pop number here! Seriously E-lec-tron-ic! Lots of other catchy (sometimes kooky) rhythms featured. The second song “Five Centuries” as a wonderful stay in your head refrain with a ballad styled lead that soon shifts into dance mode and probably my favorite track from the album. Favorites also are “Not My Cup of Tea” (track 8) and the super Duran Duran styled 80s electronic “Song For Morning Exercise” (track 1). I also liked the Chinese vocal touch to “Wonderful Time” (track 4).

The DVD music videos feature three surreal dance routines with a Chinese flavor. No Yumiko "Behind the Scenes” this time or a video relating to the semi gothic 80s New Romantic look of Yumiko’s candelabra head dress, alas. The packaging is also similar to “Super Model” (I think this album must be “SM’s” sister album!) with fold out card packaging and this time including four nice mini folded poster inserts.

If you love electronic disco dance this Yumiko album is worth your time. Slightly less a full package deal, I suppose, due to only having 7 new songs - the other 3 being already established (of course a Chinese audience may not have heard the SM versions though). But the new songs are good, rhythmic, heart moving and give plenty of danceable moments for the listener. You may have heard it all before, but Yumiko certainly wins over in her electronic dance, and track 8 certainly rocks! “Super Model” (canto) and “Shanghai Doll” (mando) are also two other Y albums to recommend with this one.
