In an atmosphere where all the newcomers are starting to look alike, Xiao Yu catches eyes right away with his funky nerd chic image. What keeps your attention though is the music. Xiao Yu is the voice behind idol drama Summer x Summer's opening theme and insert song, and he previously guest-rapped for Vivian Hsu's "Motorcycle" and Shin's Run 2008. Before moving into the spotlight himself, he worked behind the scenes, participating in album production for singers like Andy Hui, Nicholas Tse, Joey Yung, Twins, William So, and Kenji Wu.
For his own album, Xiao Yu takes on composing, writing, arranging, rapping, and of course singing, and collaborates with his mentor Chen Wei and lyricists Yu Guang Zhong and Huang Wen Hsuan. The talented newcomer expresses himself with 13 songs, capturing the sounds and sentiments of today's youth with tracks like "Can't Sing That Well" (Track 3), "Finally Said It Out Loud" (Track 5), "Can't Say It Out Loud" (Track 6), and "The Only Only" (Track 11).

A long overdue review

From his hair, nail polish and singing style, Xiao Yu definitely stands out from the crowd. After listening to the album the first round through, he reminded me of the old Jay Chou... not the current Jay Chou who writes songs about clowns, cowboys and magicians(Why Jay Chou?! Why?!!). His vocal abilities are up there with David Tao, Leehom and JJ Lin. (Check out utube for Xiao Yu performing JJ Lins, North River), and his live performances are top notch, thanks to his performances at local music bars. Looking for somebody to follow for the rest of your life? Get started here! Favorite Songs are 2,3,5,8,9,11 1 痴妹與王兩 2 沒那麼難 - Old Jay Chou style lyrics. 3 沒有很會唱 - Great introduction song, first song you shold listen to. Great Song! 4 寂寞射手 5 終於說出口 - KTV hot song 6 就是說不出口 7 I Can't Stop 8 捨不得 - Simple melody, enriched by Xiao Yu's vocals.
