October 23, 2009 Good fightsFatal Contact is not a bad movie.Some might like or dislike it but no one is gonna say that it is a very awful film.In my opinion Fatal Contact does have a little bit of a jumpy cliched story.But I can tell you this,the fight sequences are well choreographed by Nicky Li and has a combination of being flashy and brutal.Wu Jing brilliantly performs all the martial arts moves and makes it look believable.And eventhough this film might not be Wu Jing's best work it is worth getting (if you are a mega fan of martial arts films). (5)Our Price: US$13.99Usually ships within 7 daysRelated promotions:October 21, 2009 A John Woo Classic RemasteredThe Killer is probably one of my best Hong Kong action film(well at least best John Woo film).When I first saw it I was not just glued to the emotional storyline I was also completley amazed by how all the action scenes were done and Woo certently does shows his unique cinematic style and flair in this film.The movie may be old but it is still great to watch on dvd with DTS audio (thank God for that).

(9)Our Price: US$16.49Usually ships within 7 daysRelated promotions:October 18, 2009 Not so GoodThe Forbidden Kingdom is a dissapointing movie for me.I am a huge fan of Jackie Chan,Jet Li and Yuen Wo Ping and this film is not one their best work.The film is a little bit similer to the classic ' Never Ending Story' but in a martial arts kind of way and the whole feel of the story is just dull.I also should havelisten to my friends saying that do not watch it if you are a die hard fan of Jackie Chan and Jet Li.The only audience I think who are really going to enjoy it are kids and people who are not maga fans of Jet Li and Jackie Chan.
Also I am not saying that the film is one of the worst but there are few good moments in it and there are when the film starts,the fight between Chan and Li is breathtaking and there are few good fantasies moments.

(1)Our Price: US$12.59List: US$14.95Save: US$2.36 (16%)Usually ships within 7 daysRelated promotions:October 17, 2009 The American version sucksThe 2 disc ultimate edition of The Protector is an OK package.I had the thailand version way before it came out in the States.I knew I was not going to like the american version.This was because they cut half of the footage out,it has a lousy re-scored music by RAZA and it was like watching a crappy TV movie.The only reason why I bought it was because it has a very good commentary by Bey Logan (who is an expert on martial arts movies),some decent featurettes,one deleted fight scene (I know there are more deleted footage),theactrical version,behind the scenes footage and three tribute short fights scenes to Tony Jaa on the second disc.
I also think that there should be a director's cut version of Tom Yum Goong in the future release but I think thats not going to happen for a long time.Did you find this review helpful? Yes (Report This) -

(11)Our Price: US$17.99Usually ships within 7 daysRelated promotions:October 15, 2009 great actionI have been a Donnie Yen fan for few years.In the 2000's he was probably one of the most entertaining martial arts actor on screen.Over the past few years he has proven himself not just as martial arts actor but also a fight choreographer and a stunt performer.
Flash Point was Donnie Yen's third collabaration with the director Wilson Yip.The film is not as good as SPL because the story is way too thin and the running time should have been at least 110 mins instead of 88-minutes long.But the film is still entertaining thanks to brilliantly choreographed action by Yen and his team.And you can tell the challenges of filming and communicating the essence of MMA techniques in the dramatics of the film.

(1)Our Price: US$16.99Usually ships within 7 daysRelated promotions:October 15, 2009 OK FilmThe Terminator was a low -budget movie.Nobody thought it was going to be a huge hit back then and now.When I first saw it (during vhs tape days) i thought it was very violent,scary,sometimes sadistic, yet a solid action picture.When I saw it again on dvd the experience was different.The whole feel of the film was somehow toned down and it was not the same experience when I used to watch it on vhs tape.But the dvd version is still ok.

(1)Our Price: US$26.98Usually ships within 7 daysRelated promotions:October 13, 2009 Great FilmThe first I saw A Clockwork Orange (which was in year 2000) I did not like it.I thought the film was long and boring and couldn't figure out why it was banned from the public.When I saw it for the second time I completely misunderstood it.The story brilliantlely functions on several levels such as political,philosophical and sociological,a dreamlike psychological-symbolic level and it does it like a black comedy way.I think Kubrick masterfully adapated the novel-to-screen and relatively remained faithful to the book by Anthony Burgess.I also think the picther is a landmark in the relaxation of control on violence in the cinema and probably one of the most misunderstood films ever.
The two-disc edition is good.It has a commentary by Malcolm Macdowell,documentary on making the film and lots more goodies.

(1)Our Price: US$14.98Usually ships within 7 daysRelated promotions:October 9, 2009 Adrenaline rushI first saw Point Break in 1995 and I liked it from start to finish.Even though the film was relesed in 1991 it is still a great film to watch over again on dvd.It is stunningly well made action movie with awesome surf scenes, sky diving and a good music score.But what I really liked about Point Break was the character of Utah and how he gets pulled by Bodi's enthusiam for a sensation.
The special edition of Point Break is good but not long enough. First of there should have been DTS audio.It does have good featuretts,5.1 audio and decent deleted scenes but what I was expecting were the two deleted scenes that I noticed in the trailer but were not restored in the movie and I wanted to see the alternate fight between Utah and Bodi.If it had all those and featuretts being a little bit longer the adrenaline edition would have been a great package.Did you find this review helpful? (1)Our Price: US$29.95Usually ships within 7 daysRelated promotions:October 8, 2009 A masterpieceThe first time I saw Leon aka The Professional I thought the film was ok.This was because I saw the trailer first and I thought it was all an action flick.It is an action movie but 80 percent of it focuses on the relationship between Leon and 12 year old girl,the rest is action.But when I saw it for the second time I liked it a lot and I have watched over again on vhs tape.
The performances by Jean Reno,Natalie Portman,Gary Oldman and Danny Aiello are extroadinary and I think Oldman and Reno were worthy of Oscars,though sadly forgotton.And Luc Besson did indeed top his triumph with this masterpiece.
The long international version of Leon has additional scenes that were cut out from the original release and you can tell why.The restored footage show the explicit relationshipl between Leon and Matilda and it has a action scene restored.

With Ong Bak 2 it is a different story.The film was a very difficult shoot and it took two years to make.I liked the movie and there are quite few good fight scenes but there are moments when I started to wonder if there was either some overzealous editing to quicken the pace,or if certain sequences weren't shot in the first place as some plot points are built up and then never mentioned or dismissed very quickly and there are (as well as Tom Yum Goong) number of clips in the trailer that were not in the film.

Dog Soldiers
July 2, 2009 Great British HorrorI first saw Dog Soldiers in May 2002.I knew I was going to like the film because I saw the trailer first.The film had me on the edge of my seat from the moment the two campers are about to get ripped apart (and soon eaten) by werewolves.
The movie is very well made with great action,funny moments and lots of blood and if you want to enjoy it on dvd even more then I suggests you buy the Hong Kong version.It has a good DTS 6.1 english.Did you find this review helpful? Yes (Report This) -

I also really think that there should be a director's cut version release on dvd or blue ray.I have the workprint cut which is two hours long with more action and little bit better then the theactrical version.
