Give it a 2nd Chance
Give it a 2nd Chance

You would be pleasantly surprised if you haven't watched this movie twice. I must admit the first time I watched the movie, I was just plain bored. I was expecting a climax that never really came. The music and picture were great but I just couldn't relate to the two main characters. I had no idea why they were chasing each around, and I could not tell what exactly went on in their minds. Disappointed indeed. Somehow I decided to watch it one more time. Knowing what I knew that was going to happen at the end, helped me give the characters a 2nd chance. Until then, it wasn't difficult to see through Andy's intentions - it was calculated, every move and every expression of his were rooted deeply in his love for Sammi. Sammi, on the other hand, was perfect for the role - she was once again an oblivious woman who just could not grasp what was going on in her life. One thing though, the scene where she hugged him from his back made it obvious that she loved him deeply. Great movie overall, one of those movies that you have to watch with your head. |

Must watch!!
| I really loved this movie!! Sammi was so cute in this movie and really cute husband and wife! I really enjoyed how to steal stuff as well. And this movie made me think love is the most important than " Thing". No matter how much you are rich or you have stuff you want, after all, you can't take those with you when you die. But the love surely can take it with your spirit. I think this movie teaches this. But one thing I didn't like is Andy is going to die without telling his wife. I really don't understand every time, in chinese movie, someone-- espeically most of them are good people--- dies in end... I expected happy ending, But yeah, I enjoyed it and I love it, so must watch! |

good movie
| I love Andy and Sammi movies, both of them are jewel thieves in this movie and I believe they are divorced. Sammi is dating a guy who's mom has a lot of jewelry. Lots of trial and tribulations in this movie, it's a must see. |

cute couple
| andy and sammy make a cute couple, and their acting is pretty good here (sammy takes on an annoying role). the plot is original compared to the other romantic stories. i'd watch it again. |

Charming, yet Unrealistic
Charming, yet Unrealistic

This movie is quite charming. It has a very high-quality picture. I didn't get the movie at first, but when I watch it the second time in English (The first time was in Cantonese), I understood it much better. Plus, looking at the movie review make me more clear in understanding what the movie is about. The plot was alright, yet the plot was so direct. There are some scenes which didn't so much direct details, though. It has a nice, subtle theme that says, "A couples, divorced, seem to still find something they missed from each other even though they left." The lady Sammi, despite her greediness for wealth and money, still finds a longing for her husband, after they see each other. The businessman, Andy, is always "the winner," the guidance, of his wife. He still looks after the wife despite her not-as-good-asher-husband's charming shrewdness. The only part I still scratch my head on is the ending, whether his husband die or not. I am guessing that he lied to his wife, but he gave her the gift the wife ever so desired. He didn't die at the end, but he let her have the "winning" at the end. Moreover, the theme song was lovely and sweet. One thing I find unappreciative about the movie is the cunningness of both thieves and the unrealistic happiness they find in their careers. It somehow displays a deceptive message to viewers that happiness can be found through trickery, wealth, and stealing. But it is the opposite. It doesn't bring that at all, but separation and the loss of character. No doubt the movie is charming, but it seems to evade such an illusion to the audience in today's society. It teachers that stealing brings no consequences to an individual, but in fact, happiness. However, the movie has a lovely and sweet theme song. However, one theme I find appreciable was that "A husband would give the best for her wife, even sometimes when she's very stubborn." |

Eh.
| I recently rented this movie, and, well, didn't care for it. I love Sammi Cheung and Andy Lau, but this movie just didn't cut it. I wasn't sure if I was supposed to laugh, cry, or just turn the tv off. It was ridiculously dramatic at times with a half-thought out plot and an overall confusing presentation. It's hard to tell the motivations behind the characters. Overall, the only thing I really liked was the ending theme. |

A VERY TOUCHING MOVIE !!!!
A VERY TOUCHING MOVIE !!!!
| This is an Excellent movie. Love Andy and Sammi together, they are such a great couple. They really look like husband and wife. This is a very touching and sweet love story. It tells how much Andy love his wife (Sammi), even when he died. The ending is very meaningful too, it carries a message of what real LOVE is. I truly recommend anyone to watch this, even if you are not a Andy or Sammi fan. This movie is not a comedy but it is very interesting. The director did a great job! |

VERY TOUCHING MOVIE
VERY TOUCHING MOVIE
| This is an excellent movie! Andy Lau and Sammi is the best partner ever, they really should be husband and wife in real life. Both Andy and Sammi's acting are great, it's very different than their other movies. This movie style is very unsual, it's kind of like artistic type. Definitely not a commercial kind of movie and not a comedy. I love the story line and the ending. Even though it is not a typical happy ending, but this movie's ending will make you remember the movie forever. Movie fans must see and definitely need to buy it from YesAsia! Caution: This review mentions certain spoilers in the movie, don't read this unless you've already watched the movie or just don't care at all. After watching this movie, I must say I'm torn between of giving this movie a decent and a bad rating. Like Chocobo Blue said earlier, a big part of you wants you to see both of them together however it doesn't end like that. At the end of the movie, I ended up having mixed feelings about it and felt a little confused. I'm guessing the director, like mentioned earlier, is trying to portray love and happiness in a different light rather than following the usual trend of two people ending up together. I don't claim to be a Johnnie To expert or anything, but after reading the previous reviews I'm guessing the endings of his movies with Andy Lau and Sammy Cheung are usually different from this one and I'll probably end up liking that movie more than this one. The main reason why I'm struggling how I felt the movie is mostly because of the style Johnnie To uses to portray love between the two couples. I had a little difficult time trying to keep up with the couple's feelings for each other and the dynamic atmosphere. For instance, there's the scene where Sammi is in bed in the hospital and before you know it, Andy is too. The next scene is suddenly where, for a brief moment, both are being genuine and open about their feelings for each other for the first time. Right after a comic scene in the hospital, I had a hard time readjusting to the somewhat serious atmosphere. This happened to me maybe twice, but I won't go any further than this example. In the end, I was a little confused why the ending happened the way it did, but I guess I'll have to accept it as the director's way of giving the movie a different approach and try something different for once. If a person can follow the movie just fine and is able to deviate from the American norm for romantic comedy movies, then I think they would enjoy the movie more than most. |
