Winner of "Excellent Film" and "Excellent Screenplay" at the 13th Huabiao Awards, 2009 Mainland China film Yi Meng Liu Jie Mei: Zhan Zheng Zhong De Nu Ren (literally "Yimeng Six Sisters: Women in the War") belongs to the rare species of war drama told from the female perspective. Directed by Wang Ping, the documentary-styled historical drama is based on the true stories of six young women from a farming village in Yimeng, Shandong who assisted the army in the frontline in several battles of the Chinese civil war. The film centers on the Menglianggu campaign in 1947, during which the Six Sisters provided logistical support to the Communist cause, preparing 5,000 catty of pancakes, 5,000 catty of herbs and 200 pairs of boots, and even risked their lives running to the frontline to help nurse their wounded soldiers. Their selfless devotion has become the subject of folklore tales ever since, and this film glorifies and celebrates the courage and perseverance of women with their touching stories. Playing the Six Sisters are Liu Lin, Li Nian, Fan Zhibo, Zhang Xuan, Wang Shasha, and Cao Yuan, and the supporting cast includes Guo Xiaodong (An Empress and the Warriors) and Li Chen (Assembly).
