Police Story (Blu-ray) (Hong Kong Version)
Trust him, he's a cop

Jackie Chan stars, directs, and even sings the theme song "Story of a Hero" for the full-throttle action extravaganza Police Story, which also doesn't fall short on humor-injected scenes.

Chan plays Chan Ka Kui, a passionate police officer who, in spite of his indulgent lifestyle, is always willing to go the extra mile to make sure that law and order are maintained. Chan soon turns into a thorn in the side of drug trafficking mastermind Chu (Chor Yuen) who vows to get rid of the ambitious cop for good.

With swift pace and action to match, Police Story presents itself as an exemplary genre work, starting with the opening chase scene that sees Jackie dangling at the side of a double-decker bus with an umbrella. Often taking down more than one opponent with his well-timed martial arts acrobatics, Chan also sprinkles a good amount of comic relief scenes into his movie. Among these is a spoof on the Halloween series with a not-so-successful knife-wielding wannabe killer who gets a taste of female violence. Equally humorous is the scene in which Jackie single-handedly answers multiple incoming calls at a police headquarters manned only by him, and his following hilarious demonstration of why it's better not to eat cup noodles with a pair of pencils.

In the bleaker second part of the movie, the comic interludes give way to an adrenaline-filled climax in which Chan goes on a one-man vengeance journey after being framed. The action level remains high at all times with non-stop action scenes that also see super agile Jackie make effective use of perhaps one of the most unusual weapons in film history, a clothes rack. One of the most spectacular scenes is no doubt the one in which Jackie daringly jumps from the higher level of a department store to an escalator below in his attempt to hunt down one of the film's major criminals. Also featuring Maggie Cheung in a supporting role as Chan's girlfriend May and Brigitte Lin as secretary in distress Selina, Police Story adds up to a grandiose action ride for the ages.
