《九斤姑娘》是在越劇骨子老戲《箍桶記》和《相罵本》的基礎上改編而成的一齣傳統喜劇。迷箍桶匠張天保之女九斤姑娘，聰明能幹，財主石二因三個兒子生來愚蠢，前二房兒媳又終日不務正業，若于無後人持家，企圖將九斤姑娘娶作第三房兒媳，遭九斤姑娘拒絕。張天保在石家箍桶時，誤傷了三叔婆的的小貓，石二呂通三叔婆借機敲詐，鵒再圖聯姻，九斤姑娘以才智鬥敗了刁鑽的三叔婆，石二最終落得人財兩空。
改編後的《九斤姑娘》，濃縮了老本《箍桶記》和《相罵本》的精華，全劇輕鬆活潑。唱詞對白多用嵊縣土語，配合暗喻、雙關、縮腳韻等文學手法的運用，妙趣橫生，充滿生活氣息，為呂瑞英、張桂鳳保留劇目。
