Pivoting around a drug addict ex-rocker dad, his estranged wannabe-rocker son, and a 18-year-old single mom, Like Father, Like Son tells a touching, inspirational story of love and forgiveness. This charming family drama is filmmaker Lee Moo Young's third feature following the offbeat love story A Bizarre Love Triangle and his critically acclaimed fantasy drama A Boy Who Went To Heaven. An all-around talent who also dabbles in journalism and screenwriting, director Lee fills the screen with the nostalgic sounds of 70s and 80s-style Korean folk music, serving a cinematic feast that is both visually and sonically pleasurable. Sparkling as the freewheeling but warm-hearted father, veteran actor Kim Sang Joong (My Boss, My Teacher) shares palpable onscreen chemistry with his young co-star Kim Heung Soo (Hellcats), and reveals his hidden singing talent, much to the delight of the audience. The film also stars singer Lee Ki Chan in his screen debut playing Kim Heung Soo's best friend who is ostracized by his affluent schoolmates for befriending the less fortunate.

Washed out folk-rock singer Tae Soo (Kim Sang Joong) has squandered the last fifteen years of his life in jail due to drug-related charges. Leaving the bars behind, he nonchalantly waltzes into his son Gun Sung's (Kim Hoon Soo) house, to which the teenager reacts with bitterness and resentment. A smart, rational thinker with an excellent academic record, Gun Sung made a conscious effort not to follow in his father's footsteps. Like Father, Like Son, Gun Sung carries a deep passion for music - but the similarities end there. Truce soon knocks on their door in the form of a young confused mother named Mari (Yoo In Young, Crazy Waiting) who practically invites herself to their house one day along with her newborn baby. Suddenly laughter fills the house and healing process begins for these three wounded souls. But when Gun Sung learns of his father's drug relapse, all hell breaks loose once again.

왕년에 가요계에서 한끗발 날렸던 전설의 포크록 가수 ‘태수’(김상중 분). 마리화나에 푹 빠져 아내도 잃고, 젊은 시절도 잃은 그는 15년간의 교도소 생활을 끝내고, 아들 ‘건성’(김흥수 분)의 집에 아무렇지 않은 듯 찾아온다. 한편, 세상 대충대충 건성건성 살라고 지은 이름과 달리 어릴 적부터 혼자 꿋꿋하고 바르게 살아오려고 노력한 건성은 아버지처럼 되지 않기 위해 음악도, 공부도 계획대로 차근차근 준비하는 모범 청년. 오로지 ‘음악’ 을 향한 열정 빼고는, 매사 부딪히는 두 사람 사이는 좀처럼 좁혀지지 않는다. 그러던 어느 날, 건성의 집에 애 딸린 엉뚱소녀 ‘마리’(유인영 분)가 찾아온다. 길가다 잠시 도와준 것뿐인데, 난데없이 건성을 따라온 것. 며칠만 재워줄 테니 어서 빨리 나가라는 건성과는 달리 태수는 마리와 갓난쟁이를 반기며, 아이에게 이름까지 ‘대충이’로 지어주는 등 정성을 보인다. 티격태격하지만, 그래도 잠시나마 행복이라고 느낄 찰나 건성은 태수가 다시 마리화나를 피운다는 걸 알고 배신감을 느끼게 되는데…
