YesAsia Editorial Description

My Wife Got Married and Love Now director Jeong Yun Su continues to explore the dynamics of love, marriage, and infidelity in his latest film Love, In Between. Returning to the silver screen for her first film in five years, Shin Eun Kyung (My Wife is a Gangster) confronts a married woman's eternal dilemma: what to do with a cheating husband? The erotically charged film revolves around the experiences and emotions all three parties go through, and the choices, conflicts, and consequences that arise when the two women meet. Jung Jun Ho (My Boss, My Hero) is the wayward husband, while Shim Yi Young (Paju) plays his young lover. As in Jeong Yun Su's previous films, sexual liaisons play an important role in Love, In Between, and all three leads bare all for the film's many love scenes.

Professor Ji Seok (Jung Jun Ho) and obstetrician So Young (Shin Eun Kyung) seem like the perfect married couple, but even the best can stray. When So Young finds out that Ji Seok is having an affair with his student Su Ji (Shim Yi Young), she lays out an elaborate plan to approach and befriend the other woman.

A Man’s love balance – A Woman’s chaos (A) Customer Review Rated Bad 8 - 8 out of 10
It’s great to see Eun-kyung Shin back again in movie mode. For her return prepare to have your eyes bulging like flying saucers, though, as this is an intense erotic and emotional passion drama that features many nude sex scenes and ‘tantalising bits’ (competes with “Downfallen” for sure), but fiercely hits home on the bloody mindedness of secret affairs and dangerous emotions. When architect professor Ji-Seok (Jun-ho Jung) decides his marriage to obstetrician So-young (Eun-kyung) isn’t enough, he decides on a ‘marriage plug-in’ sexual affair with an emotionally unstable female student at Ji-Seok’s school of architecture (seducing her at a very vulnerable moment, I thought). Now, Ji-seok teaches his architect students the nature of balance in their study projects - and, yes, balance is the key in many ways to prosperity and well-being. But Ji-seok desires to ‘balance’ two women’s fragile emotions along his own arrogant sexual endeavours, having spontaneous sexual urges, but ignoring any form of emotional repercussions or considerations to the women concerned, and meticulously succeeds in screwing up the minds of both women in the process.

So-young working at a hospital as a obstetrician, suffers emotional trauma when a woman patient dies giving birth. To release her stress (from this and the discovery of a suspicious ‘dodgy’ condom of Ji-seoks), So-young attends a regular yoga class after work, where she meets elfin haired Su Ji (Yi-young Shim) who just happens to be the architect student that Ji-seok once seduced and now bonks away with on the side. Knowing that Ji-seok is a two timing prat by evidence, So-young tells Ji-seok she wants to separate from him. After this So-young gets more genuinely friendlier with Su Ji at the gym (eventually knowing she’s Ji-seok’s ‘other woman’), going with her on late night drinking sessions and rock concerts and even ending up herself having a sexual fling with a male student (if Ji-seok can two time, then So-young will, too, sort of thing). But an emotional triangle weaves into dangerous waters and a final terrible and sad tragedy ensues. For one, So-young still loves Ji-seok, although Ji-seok believes he loves Su Ji and he only wants to protect So-young from her fragile emotions. But when Su Ji becomes pregnant by Ji-seok and he stubbornly rejects her wanting to get serious (Ji-seok being a transitory fling sorta fella), Su Ji breaks down telling So-young she can’t live without her lover.

A Man’s love balance – A Woman’s chaos (B) Customer Review Rated Bad 8 - 8 out of 10
This of course complicates and intensifies the emotional trauma. So-young wanting to have Ji-seok’s child surly (although could have phobias about child birth) and here is another woman now holding Ji-seok’s child within her. What follows is a cringe watching sad situation to make any sober minded person think twice about ‘balancing’ two sexual relationships (futile routes). Male emotional indifference towards ‘second class citizens’ (women) is the biggest imbalance you can get, looking at this movie! The mood of “Love in Between” with its mixture of erotic sex, occasional thriller bits and emotional trauma succeeds in relaying the danger of a man denying his own true higher feelings for two women, over his own indifference to them for instant gratification and convenience. Fast Food Women, is the order of the day for Ji-seok! No choice but both choices (an apt snow covered intersected road fork that Ji-seok drives towards to ‘rescue’ Su Ji emphasises his ignorance for ‘choice’) and riding roughshod over Su Ji’s incredibly naive but very fragile need to be loved and his own wife So-young’s tender feelings.

Su Ji is the catalyst of how Ji-seok’s ‘balanced choice’ becomes challenged, due to her emotions over spilling into chaos along with Ji-seok’s lack of empathy for women in general. Ji-seok likes passion and sex, but is crap at doing the correct thing regarding commitments or children, but does, nevertheless, harbour an imbalanced sense of love and compassion. For sure, men are the ‘fall guys’ in this movie, with not enough positive female energy in Ji-seok. As for the sex, there’s plenty here and its a wonder the snow didn’t immediately melt away by all the passion (LOL)! Of course, by getting intense about this, the acting of course is very good, Jun-ho weaving Ji-seok’s emotions into incredulous guilt, on the spot passion and guile; certainly the ‘boo-hiss’ of the three. Eun-kyung is very fragile in this (far removed from her lady gangster boss mode) but very sexy right from the beginning. Think legs and you’ll be right on the money here! :D Yi-young also fairs well bursting forth with lots of ‘at a loss’ emotion. DVD as some nice extras – photo shoot and the interviews are good.
