YesAsia Editorial Description

Art of Fighting star Jae Hee makes a welcome return to the big screen in the 2008 supernatural action thriller Mandate. His last film before heading to the military, Jae Hee plays a sword-wielding ghost hunter chasing after a manipulative serial murderer. Helmed by Park Hee Joon, who previously directed the genre-bending Pan-Asian actioner Dream of a Warrior, Mandate keeps viewers on the edge of the seat with exciting action, ghostly scares, and a mind-twisting case. The film co-stars Yoo Da In (Cinderella) and Shim Won Cheol (Underground Rendezvous).

There has been a serial murderer and rapist on the loose in Whagoklee over the past decade. With the police unable to make heads or ends of the case, most of the town's residents have moved away over the years, leaving Whagoklee in disarray. After two years of relative peace, death and terror strike the town again when two college girls are raped and killed. The police are again at a lost, but this time a mysterious ghost hunter (Jae Hee) rolls into town claiming that the murderer is actually an evil spirit.

Dire... Customer Review Rated Bad 0 - 0 out of 10
I regretted buying this and I admit while I do blind buy many of the Korean movies, this was an error that cost. By this I don't mean so much the money I wasted but actually the time, the precious evening. The acting is poor and uninformed. The writers have done no research into modern investigative procedure and our 'hero' tramples over the murder sites in front of the police! The fights are what is to be expected of a 'C' movie ('C' is for crap), there is no tension or suspense and the pacing is very uneven. The clash of titans at the beginning of the film is more of a clash of a wimp with a odd fellow who has problem breathing, and the fight is suitably short and encourages no awe or interest. Oh, and the religious claptrap was simply there to give some resonance to the events in the story but fails miserably and instead becomes cliched, contrived and completely unnecessary.

The best part was the credit sequence which was basic but at least interesting. Maybe the movie should have simply looped the credit sequence for a full 90 minutes. I would have enjoyed the film more.

Buy this if you have too much money, are a glutton for punishment or you wish to end you relationship with your partner...

A Man Date Customer Review Rated Bad 4 - 4 out of 10
Okay, well, first off, I'm not quite sure what makes a first press limited nowadays. I mean, there used to be a keepcase/sleeve/slipcover. I mean, this doesn't even have features.

That aside I was writing something about incubuses so it was an interesting topic. It's a bit dark in the beginning and I don't mean tone. It's hard to see. The action is a bit slow. Not for Tony Jaa fans. It's funny how little the writer(s) must know about police procedure.

That aside sometimes this is funny. The rapper/cop, wanna-be exorcist is alright. I'm trying to figure out why no one has arrested our hero though. I mean, he's at every crime scene. Of course the cop is crooked (you learn that quickly, no spoiler there). I won't dismember or recommend this.

I'm an atheist, but I really don't mind religion being in the movies. That's where it belongs. In fiction, with the ghosts and vampires and in a place where pretty women are always single.

Don't buy it, don't watch it. Customer Review Rated Bad 0 - 0 out of 10
It's bad, the acting is bad, the story (if we can call it a story). It doesn't makes sense and it's religious propaganda, which is of course the worst type of entertainment. Things are quite simple : Religion = Power, a a lot of people are using it to gain power and money, manipulating people.

The special effects are bad. Nothing is good. People should be ashame to present something like that.
