From the writer of My Tutor Friend and Too Beautiful To Lie comes the new romantic comedy Nallari Jongbujeon starring pop group Jewelry's leader Park Jung Ah. The singer-turned-actress who had previously dabbled in supporting roles in such films as Madeleine and The Big Scene makes her first lead role appearance in Nallari Jongbujeon, playing a beautiful but manipulative man-eater who falls in love with a rich handsome man. Taking on the same romantic comedy formula as Marrying The Mafia and My Wife Is A Gangster, the story revolves around the many hilarious antics surrounding the couple's roller-coaster romance. The film recently received the green light for theatrical release after being put on hold for almost two years.

A beauty queen with a millionaire father, Yeon Soo (Park Jung Ah) is having the ride of her lifetime. She spends most of her time flirting with men at trendy dance clubs, though she dreams of marrying a rich guy. Then one night, she spots a handsome-looking lad named Jung Do (Park Jin Woo). But what started off as innocent flirtation morphs into something real and Yeon Soo soon falls head over hills with her newfound catch. But Yeon Soo's father who runs a gangster organization (that explains how he became an overnight millionaire) wants his daughter to break up with Jung Do who is third in line as heir in a well-established family. Despite the family opposition, Yeon Soo and Jung Do decide to get married, unaware of the insurmountable obstacles that are heading their way.

With a light blend of comedy and romance this tale of modern romance meets traditional Korean family values is a decently made and entertaining yarn.

Yeon-su plays a rich young female socialite who likes to nightclub and look for possible wealthy boyfriends with her female clan. She soon gets lucky when she spots shy guy Jung Do, a guy from a well-to-do traditional Korean family, and becomes immediately smitten. Likewise Jung Do soon falls for Yeon-su’s charm and spunkiness. Trouble brews though when Yeon-su quickly becomes pregnant, (and not long after getting to know Jung Do either, who switches his shyness off temporally to accommodate) and by Yeon-su's unexpected dilemma immediately upsets her gangster boss father to furious red light flashing alarm levels. Jung Do’s disappointed family also learn and demand that Jung Do make an apology to Yeon-su’s parents, and insist that he offer himself to marry her pronto. This Jung Do obligingly does. But when Jung Do beseeches for Yeon-su’s dad to give his daughters hand in marriage, Jung Do ends up getting beat up by her father’s gangster heavies for being so cheeky and incautious - finally getting himself banned from ever seeing his daughter again. But due to the die hard young lovers, Yeon-su decides to disagree with daddy and elope and hide at Jung Do’s rich Korean family lodgings, in the hope that the two lovers can eventually get married – and live happy ever after. Problems with that straightforward plan of course don’t run quite so smoothly with daddy and his gangster chums having interceding plans of their own.

Jung Ah Park performs well here as the befuddled, frustrated and at times ditzy gal Yeon-su, who is so like a fish out of water as she strives earnestly to keep Jung Do’s family members happy by entering a traditional Korean way of life. Some good visual comedy here, too. Jin Woo Park (one of the Daesepo Naughty Girl fellas!) is also likable as the love interest and the actor as the gangster father role is really good too (he who played the male 'school girl' cross dresser in DNG!) A good, likable and quite funny movie from this a classic film director (whose previous films I really like), and featuring a manic and slapstick ending to expect with a film if this type. A good film, not a laugh yourself silly type or a top romance, but certainly full of charm and two cute leads. Enjoyable.
