Super Junior's Choi Si Won makes his mini-series leading man debut in the 2010 SBS romantic comedy Oh! My Lady. Proving that he's got the acting chops and sense of humor to back up his idol looks, Si Won delivers a hilarious turn as spoiled star Min Woo, who suddenly discovers that he has a daughter (adorable child actress Kim Yoo Bin). His career is over if the public finds out, so he hires spunky divorced mother Gae Hwa (Chae Rim) to be the live-in nanny while he figures out how to get out of this parental mess. Min Woo didn't expect to suddenly become a father, and he definitely didn't expect that his secret life of cohabitation with a young daughter and an "ajumma" would lead to all kinds of mishaps and romantic sparks!

Playing the bumbling older woman again after Dalja's Spring, Chae Rim forms a charming odd couple with Choi Si Won. The delightful romantic comedy brings out the comedic best of both stars. Oh! My Lady also co-stars Park Han Byul (Freeze), Lee Hyun Woo (Dalja's Spring), and Moon Jung Hee (Air City).

Synopsis

개화, 나이 서른다섯에 돈 없고 커리어도 없는 이혼녀 백조로 남편한테 맡겨놓은 아이를 데려오기 위해서는 방 한 칸 마련할 돈이 절실히 필요하다. 민우, 잘 나가는 꽃미남 탑스타 배우인데 어느 날 갑자기 내 딸이라며 나타난 여섯 살짜리 꼬마 덕분에 인생이 확 꼬여버려 난감하기 짝이 없는 처지다. 어디에도 공통분모가 없는 이들이 우연히 만나 깊이 얽혀버린다. 그녀는 아이와의 방 한 칸 마련을 위해, 그는 갑자기 나타난 아이의 존재를 은폐하기 위해 둘은 은밀한 계약을 주고 받는다. 그리고 그들의 기막힌 동거가 시작된다. 더불어 그들의 네버엔딩 로맨스스토리도!

Less is more in this rom-com
Of the many young K-pop idols jumping into acting lately, Super Junior's Choi Si Won can be considered one of the most experienced. He has after all shared screen with Ahn Sung Ki and Andy Lau. The oh-too-perfect star proves to be a viable leading man in his amusing romantic comedy Oh! My Lady with Chae Rim.

Like in the Super Junior movie Attack on the Pin-Up Boys, Si Won plays both to and against type as a comically arrogant pretty boy who gets his comeuppance. It might not seem like much of a stretch for an idol to play an idol, but it is particularly entertaining to see a real-life pop idol send up his own image on screen by playing a talentless pop idol who coasts on looks. The idol label might hurt other singer-turned-actors, but it works to Si Won's advantage in his first mini-series leading vehicle as it automatically makes him a compelling choice for the role of Sung Min Woo. He also puts his abundance of unintentionally funny facial expressions to good comic use in the drama.

Despite the idol casting, Oh! My Lady is no youth romance, with both leads playing older than their ages. Si Won is the younger man to Chae Rim as Gae Hwa, a divorced mother who becomes the live-in nanny for his secret daughter. Thanks to a short perm, Chae Rim fits the fretting ahjumma role almost a bit too well. Her character in Oh! My Lady is very different from the older woman role she played in Spring of Dalja. Though still a bit naive and bumbling at times, Gae Hwa is not some romanticist dreamer swooning for the younger guy but a mature woman starting anew with her daughter, and her strength and simplicity challenge Min Woo to be a better person as well.

The protagonists never so much as outright fall for each other, but rather they grow together. The story steadily builds the protagonists' relationship without forcing the romance angle too much, which is a refreshingly mature way to approach a rom-com pairing. Oh! My Lady is a bit short on the overt angst and cutesy moments that K-dramas thrive on, but that's compensated by adorable child actress Kim Yoo Bin as Min Woo's daughter. She is a barrel of cute.

Whenever the makeshift family of Choi Si Won, Chae Rim, and Kim Yoo Bin are onscreen, the drama soars. The downside though is that whenever they're not onscreen, the drama sags. Oh! My Lady really doesn't offer much in terms of supporting stories and characters. Park Han Byul's romantic rival is so superficial, she's clearly no competition. Even Lee Hyun Woo, who had fairly good chemistry with Chae Rim in Spring of Dalja, falls too much on the side of staid as the boss and ambiguous romantic interest. A far more interesting and entertaining character is actually Chae Rim's ex-husband played by Yoo Tae Woong, who manages to be hatefully irritating yet redeeming at all the right moments.

Oh! My Lady doesn't break any new ground with its combination of popular Korean drama cliches - age-gap romance, cohabitation, secret star relationships, revenge of the jilted housewife - but it does break the mold a little with its unique pairing and down-to-earth, less-is-more romance. As a genre piece, Oh! My Lady should more than satisfy its intended audience and maybe even win over some doubters.

How long did I wait for this to be available?? Then I saw the Taiwanese version...
BUT NOW there it is, my dreams are going to become true ahahah
