Fresh off the success of IRIS, Kim So Yeon headlines the SBS drama Prosecutor Princess. Composer Oh Joon Sung, the music director behind the best-selling Boys Over Flowers soundtracks, does it again for Prosecutor Princess. This time he's penned the SHINee theme Fly High, a refreshing pop number that matches the drama's mood perfectly. The soundtrack also includes the Monday Kiz ballad Goodbye My Princess, duo AB Avenue's mellow rock ballad Lost, Oh Joon Sung's own Who is, and the theme song Give Me, a collaboration between girl group Nine Muses and Jewelry's Seo In Young.

SBS 수목드라마 <검사 프린세스>(극본:소현경, 연출:진혁) OST가 오는 4월 14일 온라인 음악사이트를 통해 전곡 공개 된다.

SBS 수목드라마 <검사 프린세스>의 OST는 KBS <꽃보다 남자>, SBS <마이걸> , <마녀유희> 등의 음악감독이었던 오준성 음악감독이 맡았다. 오준성 음악감독은 이미 수많은 드라마 음악으로 대중들의 귀를 사로잡음과 동시에 실력을 인정받아 이번 SBS <검사 프린세스>의 OST에 대한 기대감을 높이고 있다.

SBS 수목드라마 <검사 프린세스> OST에는 샤이니 “Fly high”, 나인뮤지스 “Give me(with 서인영)”, 먼데이키즈 “Goodbye my princess”, AB에비뉴(한보라) “Lost”, 김유경 “사랑해본 적 있나요”, Green Cacao “ Who is” 등이 수록되어 있다.

특히 샤이니가 부른 “Fly high”는 선공개 되기 전부터 많은 팬들로부터 화제가 되었던 곡으로,샤이니는 지난 <꽃보다 남자> OST 에서도 “Stand by me”를 함께 오준성 음악감독과 작업하여 큰 인기를 얻은 바 있으며, 이번 “Fly high” 역시 그 인기를 뛰어넘는 곡이 될 거라 예상되고 있다.

“Fly high” 는 SS501 ”내 머리가 나빠서”, T-max “파라다이스”, 태연,써니 “사랑인걸요” 를 작곡한 오준성 음악감독의 곡으로 오준성 음악감독은 은종태와 함께 작사에도 참여하였다. “Fly high” 는 이번 <검사 프린세스> 드라마에서 타이틀 및 메인테마곡으로 드라마를 통해 매 회 만나볼 수 있으며, 샤이니만의 패기있고 상큼한 목소리가 더해서 곡의 분위기를 한층 더 높여주고 있다는 평이다.

주얼리의 서인영이 여성9인조 신인 그룹 나인뮤지스와 함께 부른 “Give me”는 김소연이 맡은 역할인 ‘마혜리’의 테마송이자 엔딩 타이틀 곡으로 오준성 음악감독이 작사, 작곡한 곡이다..

“Give me”는 화려한 스트링 라인과 강한 비트의 조화로 이루어진 미디움 템포의 곡으로, 강렬한 멜로디와 서인영의 폭발적인 가창력이 만나 시너지 효과를 내고 있다.

먼데이키즈가 부른 “Goodbye my princess”는 드라마의 러브 테마 곡으로, 먼데이키즈만의 짙은 목소리와 슬픈 분위기가 어우러져 이별의 슬픔을 서정적으로 그려낸 곡이다.

특히 먼데이키즈는 부드러운 호소력으로 곡을 소화해내며 애절한 가사를 더욱 돋보이게 만들었다. “Goodbye my princess”는 오준성 음악감독이 만들었으며, 진혁이 작사했다.

A soundtrack fit for a princess
Out of all the 2010 spring K-Dramas that consumed too much of my time, Prosecutor Princess is the one I was saddest to see end. It follows the Korean drama protocol of starting out fluffy and ending up angsty, but the way the story takes its heroine, a flighty and fashionable public prosecutor who would make Elle Woods proud, down the path of personal growth and emotional awakening is refreshingly warm and perceptive. Despite the seriousness of the tragedy, deceit, and romance connecting Kim So Yeon's bumbling but self-aware heroine and Park Si Hoo's flippant, brooding lawyer, Prosecutor Princess doesn't turn to the kind of teary treachery and alarming melodrama that undermine many a Korean drama in the later episodes, and instead reaffirms empathy for and among the characters when the worst is revealed. This balance of bubbly angst and melodramatic lightness is captured in the drama's catchy score and soundtrack crafted by Oh Joon Sung, the music director of Boys Over Flowers.

Prosecutor Princess's theme song Fly High is as unabashedly trendy and perky as the heroine's fabulous high heels, though it still comes across more subtle than Boys Over Flowers theme Paradise. SHINee's fresh vocals and image match the uplifting lyrics and brisk contemporary pop melody, and even the obligatory rap portions fit well into the song thanks to the cheesy background vocals and energetic piano and synth arrangement that set the tone for the piece. The song that leaves the deepest impression in the drama's early episodes though has to be ending theme Give Me, which completely channels Britney Spears circa 1998. Sounding like nineties Britney Spears might not sound like a ringing endorsement but let's face it, we've all got a Britney Spears hit hidden somewhere in our music collection, and this girl power pop anthem from Seo In Young and rookie girl group Nine Muses is pretty much too happy and appropriate for Kim So Yeon's character to dislike. Kim Yoo Kyung's mid-tempo ballad "Have You Ever Been Loved" also makes a good theme for the heroine, its bittersweet lyrics and moody composition brightened by a sprightly arrangement.

If Fly High and Give Me deliver the cheer, then the angst is definitely embodied by Goodbye My Princess, an emotional, near perfect ballad that sealed the soundtrack for me. The song's dramatic sentiments are softened by a light arrangement and alternating tempo, and magnified by Monday Kiz's beautifully harmonized vocals, which grow in strength and emotional intensity with the song.

Oh Joon Sung may be adept at producing perfectly pop compositions for other artists, but for his own band Green Cacao, he goes for a completely different sound, though with the same ear for entertainment. Who is, a jazzy folk rock number with a touch of retro and trot, is a lot of fun with its alluring mix of deep vocals and mischievous melody. You can tell that Oh Joon Sung is having fun with the music in many of the score instrumentals as well, like the bossa nova piano piece Cooking Sunday, the fast and frisky piano and string number Working or walking, and the delightful orchestral jam Blue Sky.

If you loved the drama you're guaranteed to love the soundtrack as well! Whilst the songs play a major role during the course of the drama, I must admit that I have found the instrumentals memorable yet powerful. It's great that only one composer (Oh Joon Sung) created this soundtrack to ensure a consistent theme throughout. For example, the instrumentals are overall fairly simple but most potray elements of the songs. The tracks with the most impact were the romantic piano pieces: "Love Waltz", "Love is You", "Remember" (track 15), and "Goodbye My Love". Listening to the soundtrack will surely stir up vivid scenes from the series!
