The Painter of the Wind OST (SBS TV Drama)

Korea's sweetheart Moon Geun Young (My Little Bride, Tale of Autumn) returns to the small screen for the highly anticipated SBS period drama The Painter of the Wind. The series has attracted a lot of attention since conception for being Moon's first TV drama in five years, and for featuring a gender-bending heroine like the wildly popular Coffee Prince. Based on Lee Jung Myung's best-selling novel, The Painter of the Wind reimagines the life of renowned Joseon-era painter Shin Yoon Bok. After meeting family tragedy in her youth, Shin chooses to live disguised as a male and sets out to find the truth behind her father's mysterious death. Acclaimed actor Park Shin Yang (Lovers in Paris, Money's Warfare) plays master painter Kim Hong Do who becomes Shin's mentor.

Singer-songwriter HowL, best known for the Palace theme song Perhaps Love, produces the soundtrack for The Painter of the Wind, working alongside music director Jeon Chang Yeop (Bright Girl's Success, 101st Proposal) who incorporates grand traditional Korean instrumentals into the drama's score. Jo Sung Mo, who just returned from military service earlier this year, makes his comeback singing the drama's theme song "Song of the Wind" (Track 1) and title theme "Longing" (Track 4). The soundtrack also features songs from Youngji and, of course, HowL.

‘바람의 화원’ OST는 드라마 <궁S> <환상의 커플> <연애결혼> 등의 프로듀서 및 드라마 <궁>OST 주제곡 ‘Perhaps Love’로 유명한 ‘하울(Howl)’이 이번 OST의 프로듀서를 맡았으며, 드라마 <명랑소녀 성공기> <101번째 프로포즈> 등에서 좋은 음악을 선사했던 ‘전창엽’이 음악감독을 맡았다. 퓨전사극에 걸맞은 웅장한 스케일의 음악으로 가득 채웠으며, 훌륭한 퀄리티의 국악 사운드 연주를 통해 그 완성도를 높이고 있다. 또한, 영화 <장화,홍련> <스캔들> <왕의 남자> <호르비츠를 위하여> <그 놈 목소리> 등 영화음악감독이자 기타리스트인 ‘이병우’가 참여해 앨범의 완성도를 높여주었다. 드라마만큼 동양적인 느낌의 음악들도 가득 채워진 <바람의 화원> OST ‘바람의 화원’ OST로 3년만의 컴백으로 화제가 되었던 조성모가 이번엔 영화음악의 거장 ‘이병우’와 만남을 가져 화제가 되고 있다. ‘바람의 화원’ OST의 수록곡인 ‘그리움(이루어질 수 없는…)’ 곡은 이병우가 작곡한 곡에 조성모가 가사를 붙였다. 기타리스트인 ‘이병우’의 섬세한 기타선율과 미성아이콘인 ‘조성모’의 감미로운 목소리가 어우러져 감동적인 곡을 선사했다.

뿐만 아니라, ‘바람의 노래’는 작곡가 이승환의 곡으로, 시적인 섬세함과 애절함이 돋보이는 가삿말은 조성모가 직접 작사했다. 여기에 ‘바람의 화원’ 음악 감독인 전창엽이 작곡하고, 스타 작사가 조은희가 참여하여, 가수 영지가 노래한 ‘눈길’, 인기 작곡가 황세준과 가수 박효신이 공동 작곡한 ‘눈물꽃’ 은 세련된 멜로디와 오리엔탈 느낌의 곡으로 가수 HowL의 투명한 미성과 어우러져 애절함을 더하고 있다. 또한, 닿을 수 없는 사랑을 그리워하는 감정을 표현한 애잔한 곡으로 감성적인 가삿말은 가수 HowL이 붙였다.
