1988年《人民英雄》乃爾冬陞執導的第二部電影，由兩位影帝梁朝偉、梁家輝同台主演，以及狄龍、秦沛、林保怡和金燕玲助陣。繼1986年首部拍攝社會寫實一面的《癲佬正傳》，《人民英雄》表達了失意青年與通緝犯對社會的憤世嫉俗，片中有戲劇性的情節，而所掌握的緊張氣氛也相當成功，且有一定的娛樂性。
《人民英雄》電影故事描述青年阿細(梁朝偉飾)和奀仔因欠債而冒險搶劫銀行，在行動時過分慌張而被困在銀行?，遂劫持人質與警方對恃。不料通緝犯古向陽(狄龍飾)也在銀行內，他持槍控制了整個場面，要求警方配合他的逃亡條件……
當年梁朝偉亦是連續第二次參與爾冬陞電影，結果他在《人民英雄》的精彩演繹讓他首次在香港電影金像獎中獲「最佳男配角」(第七屆)，而片中扮演狄龍女友的金燕玲亦奪得「最佳女配角」。

This is a thriller crime film that revert morality of the good and the bad. Two young street punk Sai and Boney tries to rob a bank, at the same time, a cold-blooded and brutal criminal Sunny Koo also steps into the scene. Tension developos between the three parties, Sai and Boney, Sunny, and the cops outside the bank. Any delay of time could lead to death of the hostages. The cops have to plan wisely to rescue all of them within in the short limit. Tension and hostility gradually builds inside the cage, and for survival people would do whatever they have to. However, things get even more complicated when Sunny's inner-self contradicts with his wrongdoings. Believe it or not, with people facing life-and-death situations, you could see humanity Without its masks.
