a worthy try Customer Review Rated Bad 6 - 6 out of 10
the missing gun is definitely not for those who aren't used to china cinema (not hong kong, china). the whole concept of the film about a missing gun may seem to be overplayed to most people but considering the setting it's extremly appropriate.

it help some exciting moments and keeps the audience guessing, but the last outcome was a big dissapointment. i was expecting alot more.

Ning Jing's guest appearence was a big let down, considering how big her picture was on the cover (China Version) she only had little screen time.

Hmmm. Jiang must love Akira Kurosawa Customer Review Rated Bad 3 - 3 out of 10
Umm.Ok.Can we say derivative? This film is obviously based on Akira Kurosawa's "Stray Dog", starring Toshiro Mifune(whose acting skills Jiang Wen seems to try emulate also; he does in no way belong in the same league as Mifune who is absolutely fantastic), & Takashi Shimura. Jiang's directorial style also echoes Kurosawa in his film "Devils on the Doorstep",(& others). A bit of advice. Rent Kurosawa's movie, "Stray Dog". As a matter of fact, just skip Jiang & view Kurosawa. All of his movies are masterpieces.

style and heart Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
Proof that a styish film can still have heart. Also proof that Zhang Yimo is not the only director on the mainland. Reminiscent of the best in modern English films, but not derivative. A 'gun film' that impresses us with the reality of guns, that a bullet can kill someone. Sad, funny, quirky, and I love the dialect. Watch it in dialect, not dubbed!!
