Shi Jun (Legend of the Mountain) stars as a scholar who checks into a quiet, run-down house to transcribe some Buddhist scriptures. But a legend exists at the house. Supposedly, there is a ghost who lures men into a well, and most likely to their doom. Much to the scholar's surprise, the legend appears to be true! A beautiful ghost (a young Brigitte Lin) appears in the well, beckoning him to follow, but he resists. She returns to visit him, though, and eventually befriends him. Love blossoms, but the ghost is indentured to an evil being that takes the form of a dragon! Though the evil wants the scholar dead, the ghost resists, and the couple must fight for their love - and eventually their lives! The luminous Brigitte Lin shows a beguiling innocence in Ghost of the Mirror, an intoxicating romance that will enchant audiences even today.

書生陳仲躬，生性至孝，其母病重，曾向天許下三宏願，其母病果然漸癒，仲為酬神還願，最後剩「抄經」一願未還，其母囑往「終南山」訪一高僧，求賜一部經書抄寫。

仲躬偕琴童上路，千山萬水跋涉抵「終南山」，極目荒涼，人跡渺絕，行行復行行，忽見一老樵夫，行蹤飄忽，且放懷高歌，細看之下，赫然為所訪之高僧，仲躬懇求再三，高僧終賜一本殘經讓其抄寫，且摘下串佛珠送與仲躬配戴，可驅邪治妖，仲躬謝過高僧，取原路歸去。

老僕領仲躬琴童等人覓得一所廢園作抄經之地，廢園一片蕭殺景象，腳伕等人均不敢久留，傳說此廢園常有鬼魂出沒，仲躬不為所畏，決心住下。

果然，廢院內之一口古井，夜來發覺鬼影幢幢，並有怪聲，仲躬不為所惑，燈下潛心抄經。
一夜，明月當空，仲躬感酷熱難當，往井旁汲水沐浴，井中忽有一倩影向其招手，巧笑倩兮，仲躬不能自持亦險墮井中。

仲躬召來泥水匠修葺廢院，當日因天色已晚，師徒二人暫在廢院留宿，半夜，師傅竟墜入井中溺斃，翌日，仲躬僱壯漢打撈屍體，終日無所獲，壯漢稱已有數人遭此厄運矣。

仲躬驚魂定返入廂房，門外忽有女子拍門聲，仲躬默禱不為所動，女子其聲也哀，如泣如訴，忽又聞女子被毆打慘叫聲，仲躬惻隱之心油然而生，開門，但只見廢院寂寂，渺無蹤跡，返身入房，女子悲泣於屋角，自言名「素素」，美艷絕倫，仲躬斥其為害人厲鬼，不敢接近，素素似有愧疚，悲泣而去」...
