Legendary director King Hu (A Touch of Zen) brings us Legend of the Mountain, a gorgeous tale of the supernatural set in Ancient China. Shih Jun is Ho, a scholar who journeys to the wilderness to transcribe some Buddhist Sutras, which contain within them the power to reincarnate spirits. However, during his journey, Ho begins to see ethereal visions. Upon arriving at his destination, he finds the area to be populated by few, a result of wars thinning the population. Still, Ho befriends a pair of comely women: Melody (Xu Feng), a demure general's daughter with a suspicious air, and Cloud (Sylvia Chang), another mysterious girl whose endearing nature belies a profound sadness. Soon, Ho realizes the surprising truth: he is in a land of ghosts, and the Sutras he carries hold tremendous power! Shot in Korea, Legend of the Mountain boasts the stunning landscapes and gorgeous cinematography expected of King Hu, along with a touching and haunting story about life, death, and the desperate pull of reincarnation.
