Hong Kong newcomer Eunix Lee got a taste of the stage in July in the theater production girlie MADHOUSE. Appearing alongside singers Grace Yip and Eugene Yip, Eunix earned precious experience and positive reviews for her performance in this atypical musical drama. The budding starlet, oft likened to Stephanie Cheng, now makes her proper debut as a singer with her first album 09.18. Composed by Kenneth Fong, first plug "Throw You Away" (Track 2) talks about lovers who work hard everyday, such that a humdrum job has become like their love. Other songs on Eunix's six-track debut album include "Morning Musume" (Track 1), "Handgun and Red Rose" (Track 3), "Hell Girl" (Track 4), and "Forgot the Password" (Track 5).
This edition comes with a 2-track DVD containing the music videos for "Hell Girl" and "Handgun and Red Rose".

Good Production.

Eunix, a newcomer of 2007 who won out Sherman Chung in terms of sales and airplay. I must say, I can see why Sherman "lost" to her (while I love both singers equally) as a fellow newcommer. Eunix's debut EP, although it is a short one, has incredibly catchy tracks that don't sound too cheesy. The rock-influenced pop sounds very edgy, showcasing her relatively deep vocals. In short, she is fortunate to get good tracks to work with. I like all the tracks on this mini-album. My only complaint is that it's too short. I would've loved to have a full-length album that is of equal quality. This is an extremely strong debut album. If you like Grace Ip's music-style, and the cleanness of Stephanie Cheng's voice, I think this'll be of your taste. Eunix has a bright road ahead of her if she's able to continue with tracks that complement her voice, but stay mainstream and catchy. |
