The H.K. Triad DVD Region All

Director Clarence Fok ("Naked Killer") and producer Wong Jing bring us "The H.K. Triad", an offbeat triad film which resembles a Hong Kong version of Martin Scorcese's "Goodfellas". Acclaimed actor Sean Lau is a retired gang leader who details his rise from triad nobody to triad kingpin, including all the ugly details along the way. His friendship with cop Francis Ng initially allowed the two unopposed rule over the underworld, but the rise of the ICAC (Hong Kong's own Internal Affairs division) threatened their rule - and possibly their friendship. Athena Chu and Pang Dan are the wives, but the story of which girl belongs to which guy is a sordid tale in itself. Unlike the "Young and Dangerous" films, "The H.K. Triad" does not glamorize triad life, and instead presents a darker vision of jiang hu where honor and brotherhood are spoken of, but not always adhered to. Actions have consequences, and corruption and crime come with a price. Even the most powerful triad boss has to learn that, but he can still have fun on his way to the top!
