Like a box of chocolates, And I Hate You So serves up a variety of nostalgias in various shapes and sizes and the viewer is allowed to take little bites of each until they find one that puts a warm grin on their mugs. The movie itself is an old-fashioned romance about a boy and a girl, both brittle self-contained jerks obsessed with their careers, who gradually fall in love with one another but, nostalgia wrapped inside nostalgia, both character, Kelly Chen's Luna Ng and Aaron Kwok's Cheung Yung, are terminally afflicted with a longing for things past.
She is a newspaper columnist, an introspective Damon Runyon, whose column covers her daily life and musings. Surrounded by books in her slobby lair she has a taste for retro clothes, going to the library, and the order of her disorder. Aaron indulges his passion for vinyl on his radio show featuring Edith Piaf numbers side-by-side with 60s Canto crooners (too few of those) and generous helpings of his macho love perspective. While storming around town one ill-fated morning Luna discovers the album she gave her first (embarrassing love note on the cover) in a vintage store. In a righteous snit she wants to buy it from the acne-spotted store owner, Teresa Mo. Already bought, says Teresa, and when the new owner (Aaron Kwok, of course) refuses to give it up and then criticizes Luna Ng on-air for wanting to hold onto her dead past she denounces him in her column the next day. War is declared and the two go at each other in public, much to the delight of the ratings. Nostalgic look, nostalgic themes, the third form of nostalgia is that this is the first UFO film since Anna Magdalena (1998) and it showcases everything we've come to expect in a UFO film. The cinematography (by Peter Pau) is charming and the choice of music is perfect. Everyone lives in retro-designed apartments and offices that look art directed to within an inch of their lives. The clothes, the music, the look, the attitudes are all pleasingly retro and there's a global cosmopolitanism to the movie that smells like UFO spirit. A subplot with Teresa Mo and Eric Tsang isn't as well handled as the variety of subplots in Anna Magdalena, but is charming nonetheless. The last few minutes of the movie are sudden and require a total negation of Kelly Chen's character in the interests of a happy ending. It's beneath writer Ivy Ho's abilities, but everything's that come before it is of such high quality that it isn't totally ruined, just momentarily dampened. A qualified success (like Anna Magdalena) rather than a runaway success (Comrades, Almost a Love Story), And I Hate You So is a good movie enough to satisfy the UFO cultist until the next one comes along. by Grady Hendrix |

I found this movie very entertaining. Kelly and Aaron played their roles quite well. Good pick if you're into a funny light hearted romance movie. I'm glad I got to pick up the DVD before it went out of print! |

"And I Hate You So" is a light romantic comedy and is Kelly Chen & Aaron Kwok's 3rd collaboration. They had co-starred together in "Whatever Will Be, Will Be" and "Anna Magdalena'. But I feel like the saying goes "Third time is a charm" and this seems to be the case for them in this movie. "And I Hate You So" has a much better story line and the chemistry between the two of them is much stronger. Kelly plays Luna, a girl who writes for a newspaper. Mostly she writes stuff about everyday life situations. Aaron plays Cheung Yung, who is an arrogrant radio DJ. One day, Luna goes into an old antique shop and she sees old used vinyl records. Among the old used vinyl records, she sees one that she had given to her old boyfriend (Julian Cheung). She wants to buy it, but Cheung Yung has already reserved it. Cheung Yung will not let the shop owner (Teresa Mo) sell it to Luna. This starts the war between Luna and Cheung Yung. I like this movie a lot. It reminds me of the American movie "You've Got Mail" which starred Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks. |

One of my most favorite HK romantic comedies. Aaron is adorable and Kelly is beautiful. Together they are an irresistable pair and I recommend everyone to see this movie. |

This movie is truly a well thought up story. It may not seem like it to many people if they don't watch the movie closely , or if they don't pay close attention to the small details. KElly and Aaron did a wonderful acting job. It had wonderful music choices along with a nice camera job and cinematography. The humor of the movie was also nicely paced. It is very strange that I've watched this movie at least 5 times already and never find it boring, the movie is entertaining, and it's fun to watch the characters go through changes throughout the film. |

I love this movie it is funny and it showed how Hong Kong people is. In this movie Kelly Chen did a great job. This is one of the best movie she did, I think. She one of the best actress and singer in Hong Kong. |
