This romantic take on the popular Hong Kong hitman genre finds Andy Lau and Anita Yuen as dueling assassins who fall in love. Judge (Andy Lau) is Hong Kong's top hitman, the ultimate target for adorable Yu Feng (Anita Yuen), a neophyte assassin who has all the right moves. The two meet and flirt, but soon find out that they share the same profession, and perhaps even the same assignment: each other. With possible betrayal awaiting them, the two must decide whether to fulfill their assignments alone or defy them together. Co-starring Waise Lee as the detective on the case, A Taste of Killing and Romance mines the same rich genre territory as John Woo's famous The Killer, as well as other gangland hitmen films like Gun 'n Rose and No More Love, No More Death. Action choreographer Stephen Tung arranges the bullets and blood in entertaining, balletic fashion, and Andy Lau and Anita Yuen amp up the charm and the drama with fine performances and their own inimitable screen charisma.

高守為一流殺手，一天遇上同是殺手的如楓，楓剛完成工作，匆忙間跳上守之汽車，威脅守助她離開。守潛入法庭假扮法官殺死一污點証人，案件轟動全港。守準備離港暫避，楓突然出現並送他往機場，守決定留下，與楓成情侶。原來兩人均同為 Ice 工作，Ice得悉守留下，又發現他與楓一起，便故意安排守為楓下一個暗殺目標。楓不忍下手，兩人駕遊艇走。但守的車匙原來被 Ice 裝上追縱器，Ice 旗下另一殺手王昌一向妒忌守，得知他在逃，先殺了 Ice 滅口，再追縱守及楓。守和眾人駁火，後為救楓而中槍，大批警員趕到，昌欲自首脫罪。楓抓起手槍欲殺昌，卻發覺手槍已沒子彈，她立刻躲到昌身後，終引得警方開槍，與昌同歸於盡。

Ko Shao is a professional killer. One day he runs into Yue Fung who is also a killer. Fung has just finished a job and is hurrying away from the scene. She commandeers Shao's car and forces him to drive her away. Shao sneaks into court disguised as a judge and kills a witness. This case draws a lot of attention and Shao has to leave Hong Kong. Fung suddenly turns up and offers to drive him to the airport. Shao changes his mind and stays in Hong Kong and the two fall in love. Both of them actually work for Ice. When Ice finds out that Shao has not left Hong Kong and that he is with Fung, she sets Shao up as the next target for Fung. Fung does not want to kill him. The two try to escape by boat. But Shao's car key has been bugged by Ice. Wong Cheong, another killer who works for Ice, has always been jealous of Shao. When he finds out that Shao is on the run, he first kills Ice and then sets off to chase Fung and Shao. Shao gets into a gunfight with Cheong's men and gets shot while trying to save Fung. The police arrive and Cheong wants to surrender. Fung picks up a gun to try to kill Cheong but there is no bullet. She immediately stays behind Cheong's back making the police shoot them. She dies with Cheong.
