Johnny To's Milky Way Films brings us Comeuppance, an offbeat, darkly funny suspense thriller directed by Derek Chiu. Fung (Patrick Tam) is an unobtrusive young fellow who embarks on a quiet spree of vigilante justice. He poisons a contingent of triads in a karaoke club, only to have his exploits serialized in a fictionalized form by photojournalist Hak (Jordan Chan). But the serial stories prove popular enough that Fung begins basing his own criminal activities on the stories that Hak writes! Meanwhile, cop Michael (Sunny Chan) investigates the killings, the criminal underworld starts to get more and more nervous, and soon it becomes apparent that some people would actually like to see Fung's crime spree continue! Caught in a tug-of-war between media sensationalism, poetic justice, and immutable laws, these three men are set for a collision course of unexpected and wildly entertaining proportions! Director Derek Chiu brings a stylish edge to Comeuppance, but leaves plenty of room for the screenplay's dark wit and intelligence to shine through. Comeuppance is another standout genre thriller from the guys at Milky Way Films!
