simply exquisite...
There are very few albums out there that you can listen to over and over again and never feel the need to push the skip through button. This is just that album.

The originator of the Korean mid-tempo R&B ballad, Brown Eyes offers a good blend of Korean sentiments and R&B soul music. Their soulful sound stands out amongst the monotonous humdrum of R&B. Earning themselves a diverse fan base, the duo set the stage for the birth of a mid-tempo ballad phenomenon in Korea. Undoubtedly, current chart-topping ballad groups like SG Wannabe, See Ya, and KCM owe a great debt to Brown Eyes.

In the wake of pop heavyweights like Kim Gun Mo, Brown Eyes' 2001 debut album Already a year... ranking in at #5 on the bestselling album of the year - not to mention yielding a series of track hits - was simply miraculous. What is more remarkable is that their songs quickly found their way onto the mainstream route despite an unusually daring publicity stunt that kept the listeners in the dark in regards to their identities. Fans who fell in love with their music turned to their music videos, which featured a row of popular, trendy actors instead of the duo. Fans had to keep on guessing who they were.

But by now, we all know the faces behind the mystery. (By the way, those Brown Eyes don't refer to their eye colors). The duo, consisting of Na Ul and Yoon Gun, form an excellent harmony. Na Ul provides the supple soulful vocals; Yoon Gun offers his ingenious talent as the producer-songwriter for the album. Together they deliver an album that interprets various love themes through R&B rhythms which fold into soulful melodies and tenderness. It manages to bring forth intimate feelings and emotions, minus the pretension. The simplicity in their instrumental arrangement keeps the album from getting overloaded. Full of easy listening, addictive melodies, this is a solidly likeable album.

Their harmonious vocals open up Already a year..., mimicking a gentle murmur of the sea. Na Ul's sultry, roasted sound is quite irresistible, setting the tone of the album right away. With his final whisper still resonating against your eardrum, it takes you to the next track, Already One Year. This self-titled song, which features a bittersweet, addictive melody, exudes the deep, emotive soul of Na Ul's vocals. Speaking nostalgically of a year gone by since love bade farewell, the song climbs up to its chorus with a mixture of hope and sadness - typical of the mid-tempo ballad style.

The fourth track, "The Second Story I Want to Tell You", is a remake of 015B's eighties hit and it is the perfect song for anyone who is indecisive about bringing on a relationship. Basically, the song tells them to stop thinking too much and just go for it. Starting off with rhythmic drumbeats followed by Honey Family's groovy rap, the song instantly draws you into its sexy, hip-hop tunes.

With Coffee (Track 6) opens up into pure loveliness as it takes you on a journey filled with gentle breezes and warm sunlight. With cheeky lyrics setting the stage for an eventful night - "Don't be afraid tonight / Cause you're my love forever" - it expresses the highs of one's love. The catchy medium tempo drumbeats in the eighth track, "Hope", lead to a gradual ascending of melody. It talks of leaving the painful memories behind and starting up a new love - a happy, uplifting song.

Anybody who has ever lamented the pain of a betrayal can definitely relate to the eleventh track, "It Was Always So". The multi-tracked vocal harmonies do wonders for the song, almost simulating the surround sound of echoes. Moreover, the inviting, whispery sound of guitar lets the pain from the past ooze back into your soul.

It's a big shame that Brown Eyes dissolved only after making two albums. Supposedly, Yoon Gun wanted to focus on mainstream appeal, but Na Ul wanted to push the commercial envelope. Hard to believe five years have already gone by since the release of Already a year.... Nevertheless, true art remains frozen in time. A marvelous accumulation of musical wonders, Already a year... continues to receive high notes for its immaculate standard of musical integrity. Need I say more?

Hope This Helps! Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
elisabeth, my iTunes of this CD were all listed in Japanese.
There were 16 tracks with 8 tracks in Japanese and the rest in English. There is a probability that Track 4 is what you were looking for. I was also wondering what Yesasia.com was doing without listing the titles of a vastly popular CD. May be they think that people would buy anything that has Brown Eyes' name. The rest of the titles from this CD in English are as follows:
1. Intro
2. Already a Year (This is very obvious)
3. Love is Over
4.
5.
6. With Coffee
7. Piano Nocturn
8. Hope (Translation)
9. Blue Guitar
10. (Something being white and butterfly?)
11.
12.Brown City
13.No Day But Today
14.Song of the Rain
15.Already a Year (Mr)
16.Track 5 (Mr)

Hope this is not too late! Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
I hope my information here for the previous reviewer is not too late. I think the name of the movie is My Sassy Girl by Jeon Ji Hyun
and Chae Tae Hyun. It's my second favorite Korean movie after The Classic. Please correct me if I am wrong.
Btw, Brown Eyes was my favorite dual. I started to collect all Na UL and Yoon Gun's CDs after their split up. I think individually they
are great, but they were magical as dual.
