Pre-1959 Film Works of Bruce Lee
A coincidence brought actor/director Fung Fung (the father of Petrina Fung) and the 10 year old son of actor Lee Hoi Chuen together. He was looking for a suitable actor for the movie My Son A-Chang when he noticed Lee's energetic young boy and immediately gave him the main role of the film. The director also chose an artist name for his new actor 'Small Dragon' and that is how the early film career of the legendary Bruce Lee began.
In My Son A-Chang, Bruce Lee plays an orphan that is raised by his uncle. On the streets he meets the crime boss Flying Knife Lee who under whose guidance he learns to steal from the rich. The movie describes the harsh reality of the average poor Hong Kong citizens of the 50 's.

Bruce Lee Before The Kung Fu Fighting

For Bruce Lee fans and those who aren't, I believe some of you will have an interest in Bruce Lee's earliest works before he came fighting on the silver screen. Starring with his father in the first mentioned film, then with Ng Chor-fan in the other two, it shows Bruce was quite an actor. His father shown us his hilarious role (although we may say the humour isn't really that funny when compared today's comedies. A bit outdated. If you would like to debate on that, please feel free to do so.) Ng Chor-fan, one of the best Chinese character actors and star of his day, deserved winning the Best Actor in Asian Film Festival for one of his later roles in another film. Other major acts and supporting acts in these three films have made each film a delight to watch. |
