The Police Academy-style laughs of The Inspector Wear Skirts return in The Inspector Wear Skirts II! Tough babes Sibelle Hu and Kara Wai Ying Hung return as female cops with a score to settle - in training camp! Along with returning comedienne Sandra Ng, the two ladies welcome a squad of new recruits, including May Lo and the buxom Amy Yip. The girls tease and tangle with one another, and manage to fight over a few boys too. But when the chips are down and the bad guys come-a-calling, it's time to man up - or woman up - and take them down as one elite, all-female fighting force! Meanwhile, dopey cop Kan (Stanley Fung) continues to pine over Sibelle. But when chiseled trainer Lo (Melvin Wong) shows up, Kan better make his move! The battle of the sexes - and also the battle among the same sex - gets renewed with even more babes and bullets in The Inspector Wear Skirts II!

Fair
| It is out of nostalgia that I bought this VCD. I remembered watching this film on TV as a child, and enjoyed it immensely. The movie itself is really a comedy through and through. If you are familiar with the Hongkong brand of 'mo lei tow' (read: nonsensical) humour, you'd know what I'm talking about. Basically, this film carries on where [The Inspector Wear Skirts 1] left off. Our girls are back training under their strict Madam. But this time, they're going to be joined by 4 more new members. To put it simply, the old girls and the new girls get off to a very bad start, with lots of bickering and fighting (literally). When they're not busy clawing at one another, the girls are trying to get their Madam hitched to either Kan-sir (officer of the all-male Flying Tigers squad) or Lo-sir (the smarmy inspector who comes to check on their training), as well as getting themselves hitched to the Flying Tigers boys. Towards the end of the film, some hostage plot comes up and all the girls and boys are off on their mission. Anyway, I personally find the film watchable. Yes, it is ludicrous. Yes, it features some very kitschy dance routines. And yes, the action is very limited. But it is nostalgic, and it belongs to a genre of comedic HK films that is fast becoming lost. The VCD itself is nothing to shout about. Just the film, and burnt-in English/Chinese subtitles. VERDICT : If you've ever watched the film, laughed at it, laughed with it, and loved it despite its shortcomings, then get it. |
