導演:劉家良
Director:Lau Kar Leung

Successful director Lau Kar Leung (a.k.a. Liu Chia-liang)’s films usually had a strong traditional emphasias on martial virtue and the importance of family . This is very evident in his kung-fu comedy My Young Auntie which stars Hui Ying-hung as a young heiress to a esteemed kung-fu family embroiled in internal strife . Her gutsy and dauntless performance opposite Lau’s starring role as her calm to psychotic elderly nephew-by-marriage , earned Hui the Best Actress Award at the 1982 HK Film Awards .

A star is born! Customer Review Rated Bad 8 - 8 out of 10
Kara Hui shines in "My Young Auntie". It is amazing to consider that she was only 16 years old at the time this movie was filmed and had no martial arts experience. The film required endless training for her and endless numbers of bad takes before she got many of the fight scenes right. However, none of that is evident when you view the film. Instead, she looks like an accomplished, stylish, and confident martial artist.

I appreciated the action sequences. Liu Chia Liang was a master at capturing fight scenes. The comedic elements of the movie, on the other hand, mostly fall flat. For me, most of them seem forced and silly.

This DVD is the beautifully restored Celestial Pictures version of this Shaw Brothers film. It contains some worthwhile extras, including a very informative recent interview with Kara Hui, who looks more beautiful now than she did in her Shaw Bros. heyday.

Watch this film to see the emergence of Kara Hui as a star.

A touch long & drawn out Customer Review Rated Bad 6 - 6 out of 10
There are some sweet straight sword scenes & the near opening scene of beautiful open hand forms on display that make this VCD worth while. However, the attempts at creating an action comedy is lost with the time. The end battles get long & drawn out with the lack of a climax to those fights to bring closure. It's as if interesting style elements were attempting to be stuffed into the choreography that it may have been lost in translation. Due to this aspect, certain scenes are worth multiple viewings to catch them. If you don't like owning a movie simply for a select few scenes, then move along. However, if you don't mind or have Kung-fu buddies you can share/enjoy snippets of Kung-fu movies, then this is worth keeping as a classic in your Shaw Brother's collection.
