本作は高畑勲・宮崎駿両監督が、アニメーションや動画の面白さを教わったという先輩アニメーター大塚康生の"動き"の秘密に迫るドキュメンタリーDVD。大塚康生は「太陽の王子ホルスの大冒険」で初めて作画監督を担当し、以後「パンダコパンダ」「ルパン三世　カリオストロの城」などを手がけてきた、日本アニメーション黎明期の牽引役として知られている。日本初の長編アニメーション「白蛇伝」の製作に乗り出していた東映動画に第1期生として入社し、現在でも日本アニメーション界の最前線を走り続けている。
大塚康生の携わってきた数々の作品を紹介しながら、戦後急速に発達してきた日本アニメーションの歴史を振り返る。現代のアニメファンにとっては、日本アニメーションの根幹を知るためのバイブル的作品になる。
