Product Information

導演︰吳勉勤
Director: Ng Min Kan

Brigitte Lin (Dragon Inn, The Bride With White Haire) and Yuen Biao(Once Upon A Time In China, Jackie Chan's Project A) star in this wild martial arts fantasy epic adventure! The "Demonic Strings" is a powerful lyre that can kill all living beings with its deadly notes. When the lyre mysteriously reappears after it devastated the kung fu world 16 years earlier, the evil and corrupt "Six Clans" vow to possess it. Only the lyre's equally enigmatic guardian (Lin) and a young, righteous martial artist (Yuen) can prevent the instrument from bringing earth-shattering catastrophe to the martial arts world once again. With high flying acrobatics Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon style an over-the-top-fights that will leave you breathless, Deadful Melody is a tale of love, power, and revenge, leading to a climactic, unforgettable clash of the kung fu titans!

Lyre music in "dts or dolby" Customer Review Rated Bad 6 - 6 out of 10
I actually enjoyed this fantasy movie probably because I felt for Brigitte's character whereby her parents and only younger brother (Yuen Biao) were killed. But unknown to her she gets to reunite with him in the most unexpected circumstances.

Yuen Biao, still in his prime (I love his cheeky grin) did not disappoint in his usual flips, kicks and weaponry display. Carina Lau (who fell for him unexpectedly) was a surprise as I seldom see her in any wuxia movies managed to live up to her part and there's good chemistry between Biao and her in their few comical moments. I like Wu Ma, so unassuming but always play such brilliant supporting roles (playing Carina's father here) and he's also of the old school with martial arts skills. The fighting choreography was brilliant and of course since the ace weapon here is the lyre, it's not complete without the usual fire and explosive results when the music hits the air.
Our 'gender-bender' Brigitte Lin (whom directors like to cross-dress in mostly period pieces) threw in a fine performance as Biao's longlost sister hellbent on seeking revenge on the group that killed her parents.

One for Yuen Biao's fans and I'm glad it's in my collection.

Gotta get a lyre Customer Review Rated Bad 6 - 6 out of 10
You just have to love Chinese fantasy & the ingenuity of weaponry that materializes. Once again a firm performance by the ever feminine power presence of Brigette Lin. The film is a riot of characters & perhaps not as overwhelming in numbers even though it is the main character versus the rest of the martial arts world...again. But hey, you can't beat death by musical explosions!

underrated Customer Review Rated Bad 8 - 8 out of 10
ive read reviews about this film where it said a copy of a chinese ghost story.
it isnt its just a damn good yuen biao movie.
biao pulls of some great acrobatic moves, biao guards a secret sword "i think", people want it, so lots of fights.

if you liked portrait of a nymph youll like this.

Good Customer Review Rated Bad 6 - 6 out of 10
A decent action film, an o.k. story, overall a pretty good wuxia film. The English dub on the Taiseng DVD sounds very corny, the print doesn't look really new, recommend the Chinese version over the U.S...
