A drama on an unprecedented scale, Damo tells a tale of love, conspiracy, loyalty, and honor. Taking place in Korea during the 17th century, the story focuses on the relationships and destinies of three central characters. Damo sets a new standard for the meaning of an epic and classic drama.
A case of counterfeiting money troubles the Police Bureau of Hansung, the old capital city of Korea. Jang Chae-Ohk (Ha Ji-Won), a young lady police detective, is sent by Commander Hwangbo Yoon (Lee Seo-Jin) to investigate the case. However, what appears to be a small case of counterfeiting turns out to be a much larger national conspiracy. Soon, Chae-Ohk finds herself faced with an insurrection lead by the very charismatic, Jang Sung-Baek (Kim Min-Joon).
A man of the law, Commander Hwangbo Yoon is set on clearing the government of corruption. A man of the people, Jang Sung-Baek focuses only on tearing down social hierarchy and creating a world of equality. As the two men confront their destinies, a greater whirlwind of evil arises, much larger than either of them could have imagined. And caught in the middle is Chae-Ohk, who must fulfill her own destiny and become the legendary lady detective - Damo!

This movie is a great alternative to Chinese kung fu movie. I have never seen a Korean period film, so I am interested in checking out the background, the housing, the costumes, the furnishing , the paintings etc on the walls. It is fasinating. The story line is definitely different from the traditional Chinese kung fu revenge movie. Although the beginning is a little slow and I did not know what exactly the story line was about so I went into this website to get a real fast lowdown on this movie.I think it was a mistake because too many people were quick to point out what the ending was. I wish I had not know til I watch the show.But still I have yet to see a Chinese kung fu movie with this kind of story line.It is refreshing. I love Ha Ji Won in "Something happened in Bali" I would say she is my favorite Korean actress because not only is she beautiful, she has a fantastic acting skill. Who would have thought she could be young and cute and then turn out to be such a serious tragic soul? s Ziyi Zang is in a lot of period or kung fu film, but I think Ha Ji Won can stand right along with Ziyi and actually Ha is the better actress of the two. |

The best Korean drama ever!
| Ever since "Damo" was made in 2003, no other Korean drama could beat it. Still in Korea, fans of "Damo" post a lot on their internet communities. Many Korean dramas are trying to be like "Damo", but there's no possibility they can break the records "Damo" has made in the Korean drama history. "Damo" is the first Korean drama which created an ever-strong fandom. The fans of "Damo" who are very active on line are called "Damo-paein"(茶母嬖人), which means people who love Damo so much. Once you see this drama, then you'll understand why still fans love this drama so much and other dramas are trying to be like this drama. |
